Republicans officially nominated President Donald Trump for re-election Monday during an in-person roll call vote at the Republican National Convention in Charlotte.Trump cruised to victory in the GOP primary, as is typical for an incumbent president in a re-election primary. Recreational marijuana is now legal in Michigan after voters passed Proposal 1 during the midterm elections on Tuesday.The proposal was one of the most-talked-about issues on the ballot. It allows anyone 21 and older to legally carry 2.5 ounces of marijuana. “Obviously the results of today’s election were not what we hoped for. It is important to note that more Michiganders voted no on Proposal 18.1 than on the other two proposals," a spokesperson for Healthy and Productive Michigan said.The group was against proposal 1."While our side lost tonight, it is important to recognize the level of responsibility that now rests on the shoulders of those who have voted Yes," the spokesperson said. Michigan is now the 10th state in the United States and Washington D.C. that has legalized pot, but marijuana is still illegal when it comes to federal agencies.Anyone 21 and older living or visiting the state will be able to buy, possess and use marijuana and/or marijuana-infused edibles in the state. They can also grow up to 12 marijuana plants in their homes for personal use.The restrictions on that include a 10-ounce limit for marijuana kept at home and anything over 2.5 ounces to be in a locked container. There would also be a state licensing system through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, which would cost the state millions of dollars to create. While the bill has been signed into law, there are still a number of unknowns about the bill.Here is what is known:- Congress has authorized that most Americans making less than ,000 a year will get a direct payment of 0 (couples making less than 0,000 a year will get ,200). Heads of households making 4,500 annually also will receive the full 0.- Those making ,000 to ,000 (0,000 to 4,000 for couples) will get a prorated check. Those making over ,000 (4,000 for couples) will not receive a check.- Once again, young adults considered dependents of their parents are not eligible for the payments.- The amount given per child under the age of 17 will increase from 0 to 0.- Americans will receive the second round of stimulus checks the same way they received the first one.- While most Americans who received a stimulus check in the spring will receive one, changes to income between 2018 and 2019 could alter payments.What is unknown:- Will Congress authorize an increase of the direct payments from 0 to ,000. RANDLEMAN, NC (WGHP) -- Police found a malnourished 5-year-old girl locked in a small closet under a stairway at a home in Randleman, according to a press release.On Sept. 12, Randleman police conducted a welfare check for a child at a home in the 200 block of Back Street. Officers were told the child was being physically and mentally abused.Officers went to the home in an effort to locate the little girl. Upon arrival, they found no vehicles in the driveway and it appeared no one was there.Officers knocked on the door and received no response, so they began calling the child's name. Once they began yelling, they received a response.They first asked the child if she was OK and the girl replied with "no." Officers then asked if she needed help and she replied, "yes."Officers then made entry through a front porch window and found the child locked in a two-foot by four-foot closet under a stairway. She had no food or water and appeared to be extremely malnourished with burns, scratches, and bruises all over her body.The 5-year-old was taken from the home by a daycare employee. She was taken to Randolph Hospital and transferred to Brenner's Children's Hospital.She is currently in the custody of the Randolph County Department of Social Services.As a result, Adam Joshua Byrd, who is the child's father, and Crystal Dawn Carnahan, who is a child caretaker, were arrested.Byrd is charged with assault with a deadly weapon serious injury, intentional child abuse serious physical injury and negligent child abuse serious physical injury.Carnahan is charged with assault with deadly weapon serious injury, intentional child abuse serious physical injury and negligent child abuse serious physical injury.Both were taken to the Randolph County Jail on a 0,000 secured bond. 1794
