SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of parents chanted "Too much, too soon," and " Protect our kids, protect our kids," before the school board meeting Tuesday evening. This is the the third time in less than one year that parents have shared their concerns about the district's Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP).  The district started teaching the program last year to students in sixth, eighth and high school following the state's passage of the California Healthy Youth Act.RELATED: Parents keep kids home to protest sex-ed programAshley Bever is a substitute teacher in the district and mom of two middle school students. She kept her kids home from school Tuesday in protest of the program that she calls too graphic. "I don't think you need to give kids more explicit content in order for them to make good choices. We just want it to be age appropriate," she said. "We don't think talking about oral, anal, and vaginal sex in the sixth grade is entirely appropriate or telling middle schoolers you can use a flavored condom."Other parents told the board the material promotes sexual experimentation and doesn't do enough to promote abstinence and pregnancy prevention. 　  "It's not about sex education, it's not about biological science, it's about promulgating and pushing a world view upon them. It's about sowing the seed of idea of gender confusion, gender dysphoria is what you're trying to promote," one parent told the board. District officials say students can opt out of the program with a note from their parent. They say less than one percent did so in 2017.The board maintains the program is state mandated, but attorney Dean Broyles with the National Center for the Law and Policy said that's not true. "There are only recommended curriculum, there are no mandated curriculum under the CA Healthy Youth Act because it's too new and a framework has not even been developed yet," said Broyles. Broyles told the board parents have been waiting almost a year for the public records that show how the curriculum was adopted. He told the board if they don't get the records soon, they'll go to court to fight for them.The board did not take any action on the issue. The item was not on the agenda. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of people came out to see a country music concert at Moonshine Beach in Pacific Beach Thursday night.The concert was scheduled before the Borderline Bar and Grill shooting in Thousand Oaks Thursday night.  Brodie Stewart was opening for Colt Ford.Country Music Stewart told 10News ahead of the show he would hold a moment of silence for the victims of Borderline during his show. He also said proceeds from his merchandise sales would also be donated to victim’s families.“It’s hard to talk about because it’s so close for our friends and the country music community,” Stewart said. “It’s been devastating.”Becky Williams, a long-time country music fan, said it’s unfortunate that it was the second attack in a country music venue in just a little over a year.  The Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas in October 2017, was the deadliest attack by a lone gunman in America.  Despite the repeated attacks, Williams said that she didn’t think twice about attending the concert Thursday night.“Heck no, country music is my life,” Williams told 10News.Survivors from the Las Vegas shooting said the Borderline shooting reopened old wounds and churned up former emotions.“I still haven’t been able to really cope with it, and it brought that back up to the surface,” said Kyle Hurd, who survived the Las Vegas shooting.Others shared the same sentiment, saying it was the best place anyone part of the country music could be.“We love that we can get together and mourn together and we understand each other,” Kimberly Burroughs said. 1578

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of Clairemont neighbors attended a public hearing Wednesday to learn why their neighborhood was picked for a new homeless housing project.A developer wants to convert former office space on 5858 Mt. Alifan Drive into roughly 50 apartments for the homeless. The location is near the Vons shopping plaza.“It’s just not acceptable. I’m not against homeless shelters by any means but this is not the proper location,” said Mark Bromley. He believes the site is too close to homes and schools.San Diego City Councilman Chris Cate said the developer has not yet applied for a permit to start the project. Cate told 10News he can’t give his opinion on the project in case the issue goes before the Council.Organizers shut down the planned open house after more than 200 people attended due to possible fire code violations given the size of the crowd.Another informational meeting is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday at a larger location. 973

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — FBI investigators are looking for an armed suspect who stormed into a Mira Mesa bank Wednesday and ransacked the bank's vault.The man stormed into the Cal Coast Credit Union located at 9825 Mira Mesa Blvd. just before 10 a.m. Wednesday. The man, who was wearing a mask and hood, jumped on a counter and made verbal demands to the bank's tellers.The man displayed a handgun, ordered several employees to the ground, and demanded access to the bank's vault, investigators say.While inside the vault, the man empties a recycling bin and used it to collect cash from the vault. He then fled in a white Chevy Z71 pickup truck that investigators say he backed up to the bank's entrance before entering.The man is described as possibly African American, 5' 5" tall, weighing 150 pounds with muscular build, and was last seen wearing a black ski mask, navy blue hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, black gloves, and a black mask.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego FBI at 858-320-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1048
