EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — The El Cajon officer who was seriously injured after being dragged by a vehicle has been released from the hospital.Officer Nick Cirello was struck by a vehicle on Dec. 14 in the 100 block of W. Washington Ave. at about 8:30 a.m., after officers responded to a call of a vehicle blocking the roadway with the driver and passenger asleep in the vehicle.When the officers awoke the two, the driver gave identification for someone else. The driver suddenly started the vehicle and started to put it in gear, when one of the officers, Cirello, attempted to stop him. Cirello was dragged for a distance by the vehicle while still partially inside and hit by another vehicle traveling past the incident, police said.RELATED: Suspect wanted after El Cajon officer dragged by car is from well-known Guam familyCirello was ejected from the vehicle and taken to a nearby trauma center was placed in intensive care. He is expected to make a full recovery following his release.Police have identified the suspected driver in the incident as 41-year-old David Francis Cepeda Pangilinan. EL CAJON (CNS) - A 49-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in El Cajon Saturday.The pedestrian was hit crossing the road by a Toyota pickup in the 400 block of Jamacha Road around 6:25 p.m. Paramedics found him unconscious but breathing with serious head and leg wounds, authorities said.El Cajon police say the driver remained at the scene and isn't believed to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.Sgt. Steve Paz of the El Cajon Police Department said Jamacha would be closed between Lexington and Sunnyland avenues until around 11:30 p.m., and reminded pedestrians and motorists to always be aware."Only cross the street at designated, controlled intersections, and wear bright or light-colored clothing for visibility," he said, addressing people out and about at night on foot. EL CAJON, Calif (KGTV) -- A 26-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow Ramona resident during a fight at a gas station in their East County hometown pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a murder charge and was ordered held on million bail.    Jarrett Austin Wishnick is suspected of mortally wounding Steven Faught, 59, shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday near a set of fuel pumps in front of Stage Stop Liquors at 578 Main St.    Deputies responding to a report of an assault at the business found Faught bleeding profusely from a wound to his neck, sheriff's Lt. Greg Rylaarsdam said.    Paramedics airlifted the victim to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. Wishnick -- who remained at the scene of the deadly fight -- was treated for a hand injury before being booked into jail.    It was unclear what prompted the dispute between the men, both of whom had parked their vehicles in front of the gasoline pumps outside the store.    Faught's older brother, Jerry, flew to San Diego from Portland after the incident. He told 10News that his brother had a warm personality.  "Even though he had  very little, he'd give you the clothes off his back."    Wishnick will be back in court Nov. 20 for a bail review and on Jan. 16 for a readiness conference. EL CAJON (CNS) - A man accused of setting a bank ablaze and looting several stores following a contentious police protest in La Mesa pleaded not guilty today to nearly a dozen felony arson, burglary and vandalism charges.Ricky Bernard Cooper, 33, is charged with setting a fire inside the Chase bank branch at 4791 Spring St. and looting Sally Beauty, Play it Again Sports and the Vons supermarket at the La Mesa Springs Shopping Center.Deputy District Attorney David Vallero alleged that Cooper was one of several people who broke into businesses at the shopping center and took items on the night of May 30.The prosecutor said Cooper also admitted to burning papers inside the bank, though he claimed they ``didn't catch.'' Vallero alleged that several people lit fires inside the bank, which burned to the ground.``This defendant was engaged in very serious conduct which, probably from his perspective during this night, seemed like a night when there was going to be no laws and no rules,'' Vallero alleged. San Diego County Superior Court Judge John Thompson set Cooper's bail at 0,000. His next court date is a Nov. 30 readiness conference.Cooper's arrest was announced last week by the FBI, along with the arrest of 19-year-old Alexander Jacob King, who is also accused of arson and looting.
