SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The future of SDCCU Stadium, formerly Qualcomm, will be in the hands of voters in 2018.The SoccerCity San Diego proposal has already earned its spot on the ballot and now SDSU West is hoping to do the same.If SDSU West can win the votes, it plans to put a university research center, stadium and river park on the stadium site.As for SoccerCity, planners hope to create a mixed-use stadium for MLS Soccer and college football, parks, housing, and entertainment. This week some SoccerCity supporters noticed "likes" on the SDSU West Facebook page increased significantly, from just under 500 to nearly 50,000 in a few days.Confusion turned to frustration when they noticed they too "liked" the page when in fact they hadn't."I went to investigate myself to see if that was true, and sure enough when I went on the page I had liked and followed it, without ever having liked or followed it," said Dory Freiberg, an SDSU alum.Freiberg says he's been open to learning more about the SDSU West plan but currently believes SoccerCity will be better for the city."I want to make sure that if it is defeated it's defeated legitimately because it's not the best plan for the city and not any kind of underhandedness," said Freiberg.James Stroud, a longtime San Diego resident, says he too noticed he "liked" the page when in fact he never clicked the 'like' button."It's something that makes them appear more popular than they are, gives them an aura of importance or trustworthiness when it wasn't deserved," Stroud believes.Stroud believes that's problematic as SDSU West tries to garner signatures to get on the November ballot.A quick search of Facebook community forums shows it's not a new issue. In general, some social media bloggers suggest a third party app could be doing the "liking" for you.10News reached out to SDSU West and received this statement from Friends of SDSU: 1903

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The newest cheetah cub at the San Diego Zoo has begun a training program to become one of the zoo's animal ambassadors.10News was taken inside the cheetah habitat Wednesday for a behind-the-scenes look at the process, focusing on a five-month-old cub, Roketi."She actually came from a litter of six at a zoo in Texas," said Nicki Boyd, the zoo's Behavior Husbandry Manager. "Unfortunately, she was the runt and not thriving. She had five brothers who were stealing all the milk."Because Roketi could have died by staying with her mother and siblings, she was removed and reared by humans, then sent to the San Diego Zoo.Because of her comfort level with people, Roketi was chosen to train as an animal ambassador. That means she'll be part of the "Animals in Action" program, which gives visitors a closer view and more interactive experience with zoo animals. Many visitors are surprised to see dogs in the habitat with cheetahs, but experts say the dogs help young cheetahs adjust, play, and learn how to interact with humans. The training can take months. "We don't just throw them in together," explained Charmaine Davis, who heads the program. "It's a process. It's all this passive training, day by day."Davis says they use dogs of several different breeds. More important is to find dogs which are the appropriate size to play with a cheetah, not too big or too small.Davis says the zoo is proud to use rescue dogs. "We try, best we can, to find them in the local shelters, giving them a forever home here at the San Diego Zoo with a beautiful, spotted cheetah." 1595

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Del Mar Fairgrounds get transformed into a small, mobile city during the traveling performance of Cirque du Soleil as the focus shifts to feeding hundreds of artists, technicians and staff. Each Cirque du Soleil audience is transported to another world watching art unfold on the stage, but behind the scenes is another form of art. “Culinary is one of those few fields left in the world where you can be artistic, can be a form of expression every day.” Chef Scott Veneklase is one of Volta’s four chefs, creating eclectic menus featuring food from all corners of the world. “We try to do a bit of everything, German food, Japanese food, today Italian.” Because the performers come from 25 different countries, their meal is often the closest connection they’ll have to their home. Each day is a brand new menu. “Even if it’s just a little flavor from home for them it makes all the difference in the world.” “It’s so important to feed artists and to provide something they’ll like, that way they won’t feel so far from home.” Chef Veneklase and his team are responsible for feeding over 126 athletes and artists. each with unique dietary needs. “The artists are always going to be very, very clean, say we’re designing a menu have to be incredibly conscious about it.” “It’s basically opening and closing a restaurant every month, so it’s a huge challenge of creativity.” The kitchen staff is always first to arrive on sight and the last to leave. Then they do it all over again in 10 days in a new city. “We’re a close group. We all ran away and joined the circus.” It’s a fast paced lifestyle they live for. “We get to explore, we get to travel the world.” Creating new art in every stop. 1727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Highway Patrol has ruled out street racing and DUI as causes of a crash on Interstate 805 in Sorrento Valley that left a man with serious injuries. Traffic came to a standstill in the northbound lanes of the freeway about 2 p.m. when a silver Mercedes SUV hit the driver of a blue Nissan. Witnesses told the CHP the Nissan suddenly stopped in a lane and the driver got out of the car. CHP says the Nissan became disabled and the driver got out of the car after pulling off to the side of the road. The Nissan’s driver was struck and thrown 135 feet before landing on the pavement. The CHP said the man had severe head injuries. A total of four cars were involved in the resulting pileup. Three people were taken to the hospital, San Diego Fire-Rescue reported, but no one aside from the Nissan's driver was seriously hurt. The other drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation. The affected lanes of the freeway reopened about four hours after the crash. The Nissan was recently purchased, according to the CHP. Investigators said the driver might be a member of the military. 1127
