US President Donald Trump says China has agreed to cut tariffs on cars it imports from the United States.Trump made the announcement in a tweet late Sunday in the United States, saying Beijing will "reduce and remove" the tariffs, which currently stand at 40%. He didn't specify when the change would happen or what the new tariff level would be.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang declined to comment Monday on Trump's statement, referring questions to "the relevant authorities." The Chinese Commerce Ministry, which typically makes announcements regarding tariffs, didn't respond to a faxed request for comment.Trump's tweet comes after he and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed on Saturday to hold off on further tariffs in the trade war between the two countries for the time being. But the Chinese government has made no mention of cutting car tariffs as a result of the meeting between the two leaders in Buenos Aires.Xi announced in a speech in April that China would cut tariffs on imported cars this year. His government followed through on that promise three months later, reducing them from 25% to 15%.But just days later, it imposed new additional tariffs of 25% on American-made passenger vehicles, one of the groups of products it targeted early in the trade warwith the United States. The move has hurt the profits of major automakers like BMW (BMWYY) and Daimler (DDAIF), the owner of Mercedes-Benz. The German companies both ship SUVs to China from manufacturing plants in the United States.Shares in BMW jumped more than 6% on Monday morning in Frankfurt following Trump's tweet, while Daimler's stock leaped more than 5%.Tu Le, the head of research firm Sino Auto Insights, highlighted the lack of specifics in Trump's tweet. 1804

USA Gymnastics CEO Kerry Perry apologized Wednesday for the "horrific acts" of Larry Nassar at a congressional hearing examining the Olympic community's role in sex abuse scandals."I want to apologize to all who were harmed by the horrific acts of Larry Nassar," Perry said. She said she was "appalled and sickened by the despicable crimes" of Nassar and said USA Gymnastics has taken a new course over the last five months to protect athletes.Perry was appointed to take over USA Gymnastics late last year. She replaced Steve Penny, who resigned in March 2017 amid backlash over the organization's handling of sexual abuse claims, including against Nassar.Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics doctor and Michigan State University team physician, admitted in a Michigan court that he had used his influence and position as a trusted medical professional to sexually abuse young girls and women over two decades.Several of the hundreds of women abused by Nassar, including gold medal gymnast Aly Raisman, have said USA Gymnastics is responsible for not doing more to stop the years of abuse. In court in January, Raisman said the organization was "rotting from the inside" and called on Perry to take responsibility for the issue."Where is the honesty? Where is the transparency? Why must the manipulation continue?" Raisman asked. Also speaking at the congressional hearing are Jamie Davis, the CEO of USA Volleyball; Tim Hinchey, president and CEO of USA Swimming; Susanne Lyons, acting CEO of the United States Olympic Committee; Steve McNally, executive director of USA Taekwondo; and Shellie Pfohl, president and CEO of the US Center for SafeSport. 1655

United Airlines confirmed to ABC News on Tuesday that a dog died on board a flight from Houston to New York on Monday after flight attendants requested that the passengers keep the dog in the overheard storage compartment. According to a Facebook post by passenger June Lara, the dog belonged to a family, which included a young girl, a toddler and their mother on board the flight. Lara claimed that flight attendants said the dog would be safe inside the compartment for three hours during the flight. "This little guy fought hard for his life, filling our flight with his cries until he finally ran out of breath," Lara wrote. "United Airlines does not care about the safety of their furry travelers. This poor family paid 5 for their pet to be murdered in front of them. There is no excuse for the pain this family is suffering."United Airlines told ABC News it takes responsibility for the dog's death, but could not say whether anyone would be disciplined for Monday's incident. "This was a tragic accident that should have never occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin,” United said in a statement. “We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them. We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again.”According to United Airline policy, dogs are permitted on board flights as long as they are kept inside a kennel, which must fit completely under the seat in front of the customer and remain there at all times. 1603
