WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A group of South Florida strip clubs will give away 3,000 turkeys to needy families for Thanksgiving.Rodriguez Charities will be giving away 1,000 turkeys at three different locations on Monday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.The turkeys are intended for families in need, are limited to one turkey per household, and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last on Nov. 20 at each of the three locations.The free Thanksgiving turkey giveaway started with just 100 turkeys at just one location in 2014. Over the last three years the number of free turkeys distributed has increased to 1,000 each year. This year Rodriguez Charities is tripling the amount of free turkeys that will be given away, totaling 3,000 birds between the three locations.According to a news release, the organization says actor Angel "Chi Chi" Salazar, who has appeared in movies like "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way", is scheduled to appear at the turkey giveaway, along with "former NFL greats".Over the last 11 years, Rodriguez Charities has donated more than .5 million to various charitable organizations and needy individuals throughout South Florida. 1191

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House is blocking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from testifying before a House committee on how to safely reopen schools amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee Bobby Scott (D-Va.) said Friday that representatives asked for the CDC to testify in a public hearing next week to provide greater clarity on the steps that lawmakers can take to help schools educate students in a safe way, but the Trump administration blocked them.“It is alarming that the Trump administration is preventing the CDC from appearing before the Committee at a time when its expertise and guidance is so critical to the health and safety of students, parents, and educators,” wrote Scott in a statement. “This lack of transparency does a great disservice to the many communities across the country facing difficult decisions about reopening schools this fall.”Scott accused the Trump administration of prioritizing politics over science and harming the country in the process.“It should not make that same mistake when it comes to reopening schools,” said Scott.A White House official confirmed to CNN and The Hill that the administration is blocking the CDC’s participation in the hearing, saying the agency’s director, Dr. Robert Redfield, has testified at least four time over the last three months and suggested he and other doctors need to focus on the pandemic response.However, a spokesperson for the House committee told CNN that the panel had requested a testimony from any CDC official and it wasn’t exclusive to Redfield.The White House’s block comes at a time when Americans are debating whether sending children back to physical classrooms is a good idea, amid a surge in COVID-19 cases. WAVELAND, Miss. — Storm-weary Gulf Coast residents are preparing for a new weather onslaught as Tropical Storm Sally churns northward. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sally is expected to become a hurricane on Monday and reach shore by early Tuesday, bringing dangerous weather conditions including risk of flooding to a region stretching from the western Florida Panhandle to southeast Louisiana. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards urged people to prepare for the storm immediately. He also said there are still many from southwestern Louisiana who evacuated from Hurricane Laura into New Orleans — exactly the area that could be hit by Sally.As the Gulf Coast braced for Sally, Bermuda was hunkered down and riding out the effects of Hurricane Paulette. That storm — with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph as of 4 a.m. ET — was hovering above the Atlantic island nation as of Monday morning. The storm is expected to impact Bermuda throughout the day on Monday before moving west on Tuesday.Also on Monday, Tropical Storm Teddy formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. According to National Hurricane Center forecasts, it's not expected to make landfall until next week if it doesn't dissipate by then.Teddy marks the 19th named storm of 2020.
