OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Oceanside officials are closing beach parking lots this weekend in order to limit holiday gatherings as the county sees a rise in coronavirus cases.The city says beach parking lots west of the railroad tracks, with the exception of certain Harbor lots near the Harbor Village, will be closed from Friday at 8:00 a.m. through Monday, July 6, at 8:00 a.m.The city will also close all public parking lots in the downtown area west of the railroad tracks and all public parking lots in the Oceanside Small Craft Harbor, except lots 1, 4, 5, 8A, 8B and 9.RELATED: Crowds expected as San Diego beaches remain open this 4th of July"With Los Angeles County beaches closed, San Diego County State Beach parking lots closed, and several Orange County beaches following suit, it was deemed prudent to close Oceanside beach parking lots for the holiday weekend in order to minimize crowded conditions, limit gatherings, increase physical distancing, and slow the spread of the coronavirus," the city said in a statement.There will also be no fireworks displays in Oceanside or at Camp Pendleton on Saturday.The decision comes after San Diego County enacted several measures this week to slow the spread of the coronavirus, including a restaurant curfew and limits on bars. Seau, who died in 2012, was well-known in the community even as a high school sports star. "Whenever I'm playing on the football field I want you guys all to know, I represent Oceanside. It all started here,” he once told 10News. Seau’s sister Mary watched her brother shine at USC and eventually, the San Diego Chargers. Seau’s standout NFL career gave him the platform to give back through the Junior Seau Foundation with events like Shop with a Jock. Mary Seau says people approach her with a message about her brother’s generosity. "If it wasn't for Junior, I wouldn't be where I'm at today... and that warms my heart." When Seau took his own life, the pain was overwhelming in Oceanside. "It was a big loss. Not only for our family, but for the whole entire community." Years later, his memory is as strong as ever. "Junior is still with us. He is saying, ‘Get up and go and enjoy life and don't hold back.’” 1216

Oceanside (KGTV): The Main Attraction is getting ready for its last dance.The popular topless bar, the last of its kind in the North County, was recently sold. Developers now plan to turn the land it sits on, as well as more than 5 acres around it, into a mixed-use housing project.Papers filed with the City of Oceanside Planning Department show plans for a five story, 308-unit complex that also includes 4,000 square feet of street front retail stores and a six-story parking garage. Wood Partners and Lightfoot Planning Group filed the plans.The land sits just west of the 5 freeway near the intersection of North Coast Highway and Costa Pacifica Way. A vacant lot covers most of the 5.3-acre parcel. A few abandoned warehouses and the strip club stand as the only buildings around."It is exciting," says Leslee Gaul, the CEO of Visit Oceanside. "It’s part of the renaissance in our community, and I think it’s a great location."Gaul's office is right across the street from the topless bar. She works in the California Welcome Center. The Main Attraction is the first thing most visitors see when they get off the freeway in Oceanside.Gaul says the club has been a good neighbor, but she's ready for the change."It’s been a low key, positive relationship for many years," she says. "But as things change and our community changes, this is part of that."Homes within the complex will range from a 550 square foot studio to 1,550 square foot townhomes. The majority of the 308 units will be either one or two-bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, the plans from the developer say residents will have modern amenities, including "an indoor‐outdoor social lounge with pool access and catering kitchen, a fitness center, an artist center, bicycle room, and surfboard storage." There will also be a 5th‐floor deck with an ocean view.Phone calls to the developer, the city and the topless bar weren't returned this week. OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Two vehicles crashed Saturday on College Boulevard underneath state Route 78 in Oceanside, killing at least one person.The California Highway Patrol reported a blue Tesla and red sedan collided at 3:04 p.m., causing one of them to overturn and land on its roof on College.Medics and officers from the Oceanside Police Department were on scene trying to extract the two occupants of the overturned vehicle, the CHP said. Officers were shutting down traffic in the area.A San Diego County coroner was at the scene of the crash to investigate, the CHP said.No further information was immediately available. 629
