A trip to Detroit has landed a Texas couple in hot water with the law. The couple, John Guerrero and Virginia Yearnd, traveled to Detroit to attend a concert. They are facing charges child endangerment charges for allegedly leaving their 11-year-old daughter at home alone while they were in Michigan.Police say it took them hours to get ahold of the parents, and by the time they called back, they said they were in Louisiana.It appears that the couple expected the mother's sister to be checking on the girl, but investigators say that didn't happen.One of their neighbors, who did not want to be identified, said after living next door for more than a year, she didn't think of the couple as bad parents."I know them as good parents, very hardworking," she said. "He travels and his job is to set up concerts. A pedestrian bridge suddenly collapsed onto the road below near Florida International University, crushing cars and killing at least six people Thursday.Hours after the bridge collapsed, officials said early Friday that the rescue mission is now a recovery operation.Emergency crews worked overnight in what Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zavaleta called a "very slow process" in order to preserve evidence and the safety of possible victims and rescuers, because of unstable conditions at the bridge.At least nine people were transported to hospitals for treatment, authorities said.Witnesses described hearing a loud boom Thursday and moments later, finding victims, including construction workers across the wreckage and people trapped in cars.Senator Marco Rubio, who visited the site Thursday, posted on Twitter: "The cables that suspend the #Miami bridge had loosened & the engineering firm ordered that they be tightened. They were being tightened when it collapsed today." A new campaign is bringing attention to an issue that hasn't been front and center since the pandemic started – missing children.“There has been a lot of awareness, a lot of things have changed, but regarding her case, unfortunately there's nothing,” said Jessica Nu?ez about her missing 15-year-old daughter, Alicia Navarro.Navarro, who has autism, was 14 when she vanished in the middle of the night last September from her home in Glendale, Arizona.Alicia played online games and her mother thinks she was lured away by someone she met online. They had even discussed the dangers in therapy.“And then she wrote me a letter where she sweared to me she was coming back, so that’s what has me very worried, because I know her intention was for her to come back and that’s why I won’t stop looking,” said Nu?ez. “I won’t stop looking until I get answers because it’s been so long.”In a new effort to bring attention to missing children like Alicia Navarro, their pictures will be featured on some gas station pump video screens. A man walks into an Ohio Little Caesars, buys a pizza and walks back out to his car.Happens every day.What does not happen every day is the man driving away on only three tires and getting busted for an OVI. According to Canton police, Joshua Milkovich, 28, was missing a tire as he drove his car around on Sunday night. Police say they got several calls from concerned citizens who were worried he had gotten into accident.Police found him on the 1900 block of Mount Vernon, where his car broke down.He was charged with an OVI and taken to Stark County Jail.  598

A new study takes a closer look at the impact the amount of time children spend on cell phones, computers and TV is having on their brains.“What they're finding, or what they're reporting, is that more screen time--in fact a lot of screen time, around 7 hours a day--is associated with changes in the brain and changes in cognition,” says Rachel Barr, a developmental psychologist.Dr. Barr studies the impact TVs, computers and cell phones can have on young children.Kids between the ages of 8 and 12 spend generally six hours a day, while teens are spending nearly nine hours.While Dr. Barr agrees too much time can have negative impacts, she points out what children watch on their devices matter.“Exposure to education programing in younger children is associated with better outcomes and especially for children who are growing up in low resourced communities,” Dr. Barr explains.As for what parents can do: set time limits and ground rules, like keeping screens out of the bedroom, which can make it easier for children to fall and stay asleep.“Setting up this family media plan, being mindful of your own media use and your child's media use, even though you're being bombarded by all of these changes in media yourself,” suggests Dr. Barr. 1254
