CINCINNATI — Four Cincinnati Reds players knelt during the national anthem before an exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers at Great American Ball Park Tuesday night.Among the players kneeling in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement were Joey Votto, the Reds' star first baseman, pitcher Amir Garrett and left fielder Phillip Ervin.Garrett recently said he was reluctant at first to speak out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, but he now says he's found his voice and calls for an end to racial injustice."I was scared to talk about these injustice issues we were having because in baseball, there's not a lot of African Americans that play the game, and I was nowhere near Kaepernick (in prominence)," Garrett said. "I felt I could be pushed out of the game. That was really scary for me."Since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis earlier this year, Votto has been an outspoken supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. Earlier this month, he was seen wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt during a workout."I think I've changed as a man. I feel my perspective has changed," Votto told the Associated Press earlier this month. "I didn't want to (speak up), but I couldn't sleep. There was a long stretch where I couldn't sleep. When it affects me that deeply, I felt strongly about saying something and learning. Every day I'm trying to learn."The demonstration by Reds players came a day after several members of the San Francisco Giants knelt for the national anthem prior to an exhibition on Tuesday. Among the Giants players who knelt were outfielder Hunter Pence, infielder Pablo Sandoval and rookie Mauricio Dubón, as well as manager Gabe Kapler.The Giants' demonstration prompted a response from President Donald Trump, who said that when any player or coach kneels for the anthem ahead of a sporting event, "the game is over for me." 1907

CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- The City of Chula Vista is asking for the public’s help identifying those responsible for vandalizing several city parks.On November 10, Rohr Park and Terra Nova Park were damaged by vandals driving vehicles on the park grounds and soccer fields.RELATED: Chula Vista's Discovery Park damaged by vandals driving on turfThe city says this is the second time in a month parks have been vandalized. In October, Discovery Park and Marisol Park were also damaged in the same way.The city says this type of damage makes the fields unusable. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man suspected of making a threat against a Chula Vista Catholic church and school was arrested Wednesday, Chula Vista Police said.Thomas Escajeda, 61, called St. Rose of Lima church and school at 293 H St. Tuesday. He threatened to harm parishioners attending a mass for All Saints Day on Thursday at 8 a.m., police said.A church representative called police, who arrested Escajada Wednesday on suspicion of Felony Criminal Threats. He is currently being held on 0,000 bail.Escajeda has been a regular participant of the church for a year, police said. Investigators said they did not know the motive for the threat.The All Saints Day mass is part of a solemn holy day for Catholic worshippers, dedicated to honor of the saints of the Church, according to Catholic.org.The mass and Thursday classes were canceled despite the arrest, police said. Church officials rescheduled the mass for next Tuesday, November 6, at 9:00 a.m.Security will be hired as a precaution in the near future, according to Jeff Saavedra of St. Rose of Lima.  1115

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Parents at Eastlake High School are asking the Sweetwater Union High School District board to investigate a math teacher that students accuse of making inappropriate comments. The parents say the issue started last spring when the teacher made comments about erectile dysfunction in class. Other parents say the teacher hardly teaches, forcing their kids to fall behind. Dan Huslin, a parent of an Eastlake High sophomore, said the school's principal told him last year the teacher was suspended, but this year he found out he's back in the classroom. Huslin said when he asked about why he returned, the current principal told him the district was providing the teacher counseling to help him improve. On Monday night, parents spoke at a Sweetwater district meeting and asked the board to investigate and remove the teacher. Also, parents asked the district to provide math tutoring for the students who are now behind. A district spokesperson told 10News the teacher was not suspended last year and was instead out for personal reasons, adding that they couldn't comment on whether the teacher is receiving any counseling because it is a personnel matter. The spokesperson did say the parents concerns are being addressed, but wouldn't specify how. 1288
