After former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s stay in the hospital, Christie told the New York Times on Thursday he was “wrong” not to wear a mask inside the White House before becoming infected with the coronavirus.Christie, President Donald Trump, and a number of others who had contact with Trump and his staff, tested positive for the coronavirus several weeks ago. Christie spent nearly a week in the hospital, and he told the New York Times he was in the intensive care unit.Christie, who has since been released from the hospital and is recovering, expressed regret for his actions inside of the White House. Christie was among a group of GOP advisers helping Trump with preparing for the Sept. 30 debate.“I believed when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that I and many others underwent every day,” Christie said in the statement to the New York Times. “I was wrong. I was wrong not to wear a mask at the Amy Coney Barrett announcement and I was wrong not to wear a mask at my multiple debate prep sessions with the president and the rest of the team."Christie said that the public should take the virus seriously.“I hope that my experience shows my fellow citizens that you should follow CDC guidelines in public no matter where you are and wear a mask to protect yourself and others,” he told the Times.Kellyanne Conway, who also was on Trump’s debate prep team, tested positive for the coronavirus.A contingent of others who attended Barrett’s nomination ceremony tested positive for the virus, including three US senators, Notre Dame President John Jenkins, and an unnamed White House journalist. The virus also reached others in the presidential family, with both first lady Melania Trump and son Barron Trump testing positive. Other aides, including Kayleigh McEnany, Hope Hicks, and Stephen Miller, also confirmed they tested positive for the virus. While Christie came to terms with the seriousness of his infection, Trump has largely brushed off his ailment. Trump was rushed to the hospital by Marine One on October 2, and he stayed there for nearly 72 hours. Presidential physician Dr. Sean Conley released multiple statements downplaying Trump’s prognosis, only for Conley to later reveal more serious details of Trump’s diagnosis. It was learned in the days following Trump’s positive coronavirus test that he ran a significantly high fever and needed supplemental oxygen.Following his 10-day isolation period, Trump immediately held a public event at the White House, inviting hundreds of people who sat shoulder to shoulder, many of whom without masks. He then has been holding rallies on a daily basis since Monday.Dr. Anthony Fauci said that holding such events is risky."I think the — the data speaks for themselves," Fauci to CBS News about wearing masks. "We had a super-spreader event in the White House and it was in a situation where people were crowded together and were not wearing masks. So the data speak for themselves." 3014

AMC Theatres will reopen around 450 of its U.S. theaters in mid-July as part of a phased reopening following what its CEO called a “painful” hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leawood-based chain’s first theaters will reopen on July 15, followed by its remaining 150 U.S. locations in time for the release of “Mulan” on July 24 and “Tenet” on July 31, according to a news release.AMC Theatres, already struggling before the pandemic, reported a nearly .2 billion loss for the first quarter of the year after it shuttered theaters worldwide.“After a painful almost four-month hiatus due to the coronavirus, we are delighted to announce that movies are coming back to the big screen at AMC,” AMC President and CEO Adam Aron said in the news release. “…I cannot emphasize enough how much care and attention to detail we have taken in developing AMC Safe and Clean, our absolute commitment to optimizing the health and safety of our theaters for our guests and associates.”Theaters will reopen with reduced seating capacity to encourage social distancing, along with increased cleaning, contactless ticketing, and mobile food and beverage orders.AMC said it expects different versions of seating limits in theaters to be in place until Thanksgiving, though it also acknowledged that those plans could change depending on local and regional health conditions. All theater employees will be required to wear masks. Initially, the company said masks would only be a requirement for guests in jurisdictions that require people to wear them in public. After facing scrutiny for the decision, which Aron told Variety was made because the company did "not want to be drawn into a political controversy," AMC reversed course on Friday and said masks would be a requirement for guests in all of its theaters."At AMC Theatres, we think it is absolutely crucial that we listen to our guests," a news release on Friday said. "Accordingly, and with the full support of our scientific advisors, we are reversing course and are changing our guest mask policy."Masks will be sold for at all locations for those who do not have one or forget to bring one. Those who are not willing to wear masks will not be admitted or allowed to stay, AMC said Friday.KSBH was the first to report this story. 2288

A woman who was caught on camera calling 911 dispatchers on a Black bird watcher in New York City’s Central Park will face charges. The Manhattan District Attorney announced Monday his office has initiated a prosecution of Amy Cooper for falsely reporting an incident.Cooper was walking her dog in the park in May and was seen on camera having a confrontation with a Black man, who was birdwatching at the time. The man, Christian Cooper (no relation to Amy Cooper) told Amy Cooper that by not putting her dog on a leash in that section of the park, she was in violation of park rules. In the cell phone video taken by Christian Cooper, Amy Cooper is heard talking to 911 dispatchers and telling them a Black man was threatening her life. Cooper was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket for an arraignment in October. In a statement posted online, the DA is asking others who have been “the target of false reporting to contact our Office. We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.” 1019

Almost 30 million Facebook users' phone numbers and email addresses were accessed by hackers in the biggest security breach in the company's history, Facebook said on Friday. The attackers accessed even more details on 14 million of those users, including the area where they live, their relationship status and their religion. The new details come two weeks after Facebook first announced that attackers had access to 50 million users' accounts -- meaning they could have logged in as those users. Facebook said on Friday that, "We now know that fewer people were impacted than we originally thought," and said that 30 million people had been impacted. For the 14 million worst hit by the breach, the attackers were able to access the following information, Facebook said: "username, gender, locale/language, relationship status, religion, hometown, self-reported current city, birthdate, device types used to access Facebook, education, work, the last 10 places they checked into or were tagged in, website, people or Pages they follow, and the 15 most recent searches."Facebook said it will send a message to the 30 million users affected in the coming days. If you would like to check and see for yourself if your account was affected, click here. The company also said it is cooperating with the FBI, the Federal Trade Commission and the Irish Data Protection Commission.Facebook is regulated by Irish authorities in Europe as its European headquarters is located there. A spokesperson for the Irish data regulator said of Friday's announcement, "The update from Facebook today is significant now that Facebook has confirmed that the personal data of millions of users was taken by the perpetrators of the attack."Despite Friday's announcement, there are still many details about the hack that have not been made public, including who was behind it.The attack prompted Facebook to take the unprecedented step of logging out the 50 million users whose accounts were exposed and logged out another 40 million users as a precautionary measure. 2056
