CHENGDU, Nov. 12 (Xinhua)-- The reconstruction of the Erwang Temple, which was damaged in the Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008, is expected to finish on Nov. 18 in southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to local heritage protection authorities on Friday.Sitting in the Yulei Mountains in Dujiangyan City, Erwang Temple was built over 2,000 years ago to commemorate Li Bing and his son, the two engineers who built the Dujiangyan irrigation system, which was listed as a World Heritage site in 2000.The temple will soon be partially open for visitors and the final touches are being added to the water supply, drainage system and lavatories in these areas, said Fan Tuoyu, deputy chief of the Dujiangyan Cultural Relics Administration.The entire temple will be opened after the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 3, 2011, said Fan.The reconstruction project kicked off in June, 2008 with an investment of 126 million yuan (19 million U.S. dollars) from the central budget.The temple was seriously damaged in the Wenchuan earthquake with almost all the ancient buildings having collapsed.

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China's largest lender by market value, announced Thursday that it has completed its 44.9 billion yuan(about 6.75 billion U.S. dollar) rights issue in Shanghai and Hong Kong.The dual-listed lender said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange that it had raised 13.04 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 11.18 billion yuan) from the Hong Kong portion of its rights issue by selling 3.74 billion shares at a price of 3.49 Hong Kong dollars.The Beijing-based bank said it had sold 11.3 billion shares at 2.99 yuan in the Shanghai market, which was 99.72 percent subscribed and had raised 33.67 billion yuan in late November.The ICBC said the fund raising aimed to replenish its capital base.The bank's core capital adequacy ratio stood at 9.33 percent by the end of September this year, while its capital adequacy ratio was 11.57 percent. In the first three quarters of this year, the ICBC saw net profits up 27.1 percent year on year to 127.8 billion yuan.Shares of the bank closed flat at 4.18 yuan in Shanghai and was down 0.35 percent to 5.7 Hong Kong dollars in Hong Kong.

NANJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- About 5,000 Chinese and foreigners gathered Monday in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, to mourn hundreds of thousands of people who were killed by invading Japanese troops 73 years ago.Participants in the ceremony stood in silent tribute, offered wreaths and bowed in front of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre, with sirens wailing in the drizzling morning on Monday, the 73rd anniversary of the massive slaughter."The Japanese soldiers invaded Nanjing when I was four, and they killed some of my family members. On the anniversary of the massacre every year I would come here to express my grief," said Sun Xuelan, a 77-year-old survivor, who is confined to a wheelchair.Japanese troops occupied Nanjing on Dec. 13, 1937 and began a six-week massacre. Records show more than 300,000 people -- not only disarmed soldiers , but also civilians -- were killed.Mikhalchev Mikhail, deputy director of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Russia, said, "In the history of human civilization, some facts shouldn't be forgotten, and the Nanjing Massacre was one of them."He noted that the tragedy had become a symbol of the Chinese people's bitter suffering and prompted all people to learn the preciousness of peace.""We should remember the history, but not hatred. JINAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Police in east China's Shandong Province said Saturday that one of the two killers who shot dead four policemen on Jan. 4 had also murdered another man before the gunfight.Liu Jianjun, 50, allegedly killed one man on Dec. 29 last year in Dezhou City of Shandong.Liu and his 52-year-old brother Liu Lumin shot at policemen who were investigating the Dec. 29 murder case in Tai'an City of the province on Jan. 4 .Three policemen were killed at the scene, and another died later in the hospital.After gunning down the officers, the two men fled the scene, hijacking four cars and shooting two drivers before their car collided with a police wagon.The gunmen, armed with a homemade pistol and a double-barreled shotgun, continued to fire after police had cornered them, injuring more policemen and civilians.Liu Lumin then shot and killed himself while Liu Jianjun was taken into custody.

JINAN, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and the Republic of Korea (ROK)Tuesday launched a joint land and sea transport services in a bid to cut logistics costs and boost trade.Semi-trailers loaded with cargo can now be shipped between Qingdao, Rizhao, Yantai, Weihai, Longyan and Shidao in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong and Incheon, Pyungtack and Kunsan in the ROK.The service can cut transport time by 3.5 hours and reduce costs by 50 U.S. dollars per container, as trailers can be driven directly to customers without unloading and loading, according to the ROK's Transport Research Institute.The service is expected to boost the shipments of fresh vegetables, live fish and other fragile products such as glass and electronics.Gao Hongtao, deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Transportation Bureau, said that with continuous oxygen charging and temperature control, the service can increase by 10 percent the survival rate of live fish exported from Weihai to the ROK.The two countries would later allow trucks to be shipped, according to an agreement they signed in September.
