SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Poway family is urging people to be aware of a possible new scam that may be luring people away from their homes. One resident says she was almost tricked by a caller who claimed to be an SDG&E employee. A voicemail was left for the Chavez family, saying crews needed to do some work on equipment in the area. It stated, “It requires a helicopter. The helicopter is required from the FAA to have certain properties, like yourself, evacuate the home.”Katharine Chavez says she called the company to confirm. “(They) said let me check your area and came back and said there’s no work planned in your area.”Chavez says she wants to make sure others don’t fall victim to scammers. “It's scary, and you work hard for your stuff,” said Chavez. “To have someone come in and try to take what you work for, or your neighbors, just go out and make your own money.”SDG&E says under FAA regulations they are required to notify residents and evacuate homes for special construction projects, such as transporting a new utility pole by helicopter. The company says you should always ask for SDG&E identification if you have suspicions about a worker coming to your home. 1197

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Youth sports leaders are holding a protest in front of the San Diego County Administration Building on Saturday to voice their concerns over the state’s regulations regarding games and competitions.Currently, under California's coronavirus restrictions, youth sports can practice, as long as six feet of social distancing can be maintained. Bob Turner is both Executive Director of Presidio Soccer League and President of the Southern California Youth Soccer Association and said the athletes should be able to play games.He said they have created safety plans, including spacing out the times of games and shortening games to avoid crowds, only allowing one parent for each athlete, and also requiring masks of all referees, parents, and substitute players. Turner said they’ve sent countless letters and filled out petitions to the state, but have not gotten a response. RELATED: County sends plan to resume youth sport practices to Gov. NewsomA spokesperson for San Diego County said the county has also been asked about plans for youth sports. They also asked the state and have not heard about what’s next.“This is small potatoes to them compared to a lot of the other things opening but it is our youth and what’s more important than our kids. This is the only outlet some of these kids have,” said Turner.Turner added that he’s heard of some athletes traveling to other states that have more relaxed restrictions so they can play in games and tournaments.Turner said counties in California are planning to all hold protests to voice their concerns. He said any athlete is welcome at their protest Saturday, and hopes the unified voices will be heard by the state.“We need to bring awareness. It's back to the store. David Warren's sofa just didn't look right. So he was back at the Target store in Kearny Mesa Saturday afternoon."I'm just returning these pillows and shirts," Warren said. "I'm going to swap them out for something smaller."Fernando Delacruz and his wife bought themselves bicycles to kick start a healthy New Year's resolution."I figured I'm going to need a bike so I can exercise," Delacruz said. "And then my wife said, 'Oh that's a cool Christmas gift for me too!'"The couple bought their bikes at target.com. Delacruz's fit perfectly, but his wife's did not."When she tried it on, it was kind of a little big for her," Delacruz said. "So we have to return it."The pandemic has caused a surge in online shoppers, a saving grace for retailers. But not being able to touch and feel the products means there have been a record-setting number of returns. Experts say returns will cost companies more than billion this holiday season.
