The last year has been a challenging one for New York City, which was among the hardest hit areas in the world for coronavirus cases.Months after a spring surge of cases, schools closed and hospitals filled with coronavirus patients this week, as life is struggling to return to normal. One sign life isn’t back to normal is that next week’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held without spectators. In honor of the front-line workers keeping New York City safe and healthy, Macy’s has decorated its storefront at its flagship store in Midtown Manhattan with the theme "Give, Love and Believe."The tradition of decorating the storefront dates back 146 years. Macy’s installed social distancing markers in front of the mural to space onlookers. The storefront is part of a broader theme of philanthropy at all Macy’s locations throughout the United States. All Macy’s locations will have a red mailbox where children can address letters to Santa. For each letter received by Macy’s addressed to Santa, the retailer will donate , up to million, to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.“Believe is a special moment for the Macy’s family each year,” said Lauren Anania, Macy’s Director of Cause Execution. “As we celebrate the wonder of giving, we feel privileged to support Make-A-Wish in its quest to grant the wishes of children in need. We are proud of the passion that our colleagues bring and grateful to our customers for turning this program into a tradition of endless generosity and community through the collection of millions of letters over the last 11 years.” 1575

The Miami Police Department said they are investigating an incident involving an officer in uniform who was spotted wearing a pro-Trump mask inside a polling site.According to the Miami Herald, the officer was spotted wearing the mask inside a polling site, which under state statute, is not allowed during an election if they are endorsing a candidate. The picture of the officer was taken by Steve Simeonidis, who according to Buzzfeed News is the Chair of Miami-Dade Democrats. The police department said in a tweet that they are aware of the photograph and this type of behavior is "unacceptable, a violation of departmental policy, and is being addressed immediately." 679

The National Rifle Association is suing the state of Florida after Gov. Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 7026 into law Friday, the first gun control legislation enacted in the state after the Parkland school massacre on February 14.The NRA suit focuses on the part of the law that raises the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21 from 18."This bill punishes law-abiding gun owners for the criminal acts of a deranged individual," executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Chris W. Cox said. "Securing our schools and protecting the constitutional rights of Americans are not mutually exclusive."Seventeen people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when a 19-year-old man with a semi-automatic military-style rifle opened fire. The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of Florida, says the age minimum section of the new law violates the second and 14th amendments of the US Constitution. The NRA argues people who are 18 years old are considered adults "for almost all purposes and certainly for the purposes of the exercise of fundamental constitutional rights."The organization also contends federal law already prevents many Americans 21 or younger from buying certain types of guns. Florida's law unconstitutionally broadens those limits, the NRA says.Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is named as a defendant, said she was proud of the law."This bill is not perfect, and sadly it will not bring back the 17 lives lost in the horrific school shooting, but the safety of our children is not a political issue, it's simply the right thing to do," she said.Bondi also lauded the students of Stoneman Douglas, many of whom have called for tougher gun laws.Several students texted CNN's Dianne Gallagher with their excitement about Scott signing the measures."We are happy and ready to keep working!!," wrote junior Connor Dietrich."We have much more planned. This is just the beginning," Tyra Hemans said. The new law also bans the sale or possession of bump fire stocks, gives law enforcement greater power to seize weapons and ammunition from those deemed mentally unfit, and provides additional funding for armed school resource officers.A controversial part of the new law is known as the Coach Aaron Feis Guardian Program, which arms some teachers if both the local school district and local sheriff's department agree. The million provision is named after the coach who shielded students with his own body and died in last month's shooting. An NRA statement issued after the governor signed the law said the organization supports increased school security, fixing what it called a broken mental health system and keeping guns away from people who are mentally ill"Preventing a responsible 20-year-old from purchasing the best tool for self-defense will not stop a deranged criminal intent on committing a crime," the NRA said.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. The hurricane that swept ashore in Louisiana less than 24 hours ago has weakened to a tropical depression and is bringing heavy rain to western Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center says maximum sustained winds of what was once Hurricane Delta were clocked at 35 mph at around 10 a.m. local time Saturday. At that time, the storm was centered about 65 miles north-northwest of Jackson, Mississippi, and was moving northeast at 16 mph.Tropical storm-force winds gusts will persist for a few more hours over portions of Mississippi and southeastern Arkansas during the day Saturday.Officials say heavy rainfall will lead to flash flooding and minor river flooding across Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys Saturday and into the Southern Appalachians through Sunday.“Minor to major river flooding will continue across portions of Louisiana and Mississippi through much of the week,” NHC said.Hurricane Delta made landfall as a Category 2 storm in southwestern Louisiana. The center of the storm hit land at 6 p.m. Friday near Creole, with top winds of 100 mph.Around landfall, a National Weather Service water gauge at Freshwater Canal Locks, Louisiana, reported a storm surge inundation of more than 8 feet above ground level. The NHC says water levels will continue to subside along the Louisiana coast Saturday.Delta was the 10th named storm to hit the continental United States this year, breaking a century-old record. 1437
