(KGTV) – Escondido Police have released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting that left one man hospitalized last month.EPD says the incident started with a 911 call about a restraining order violation at about 3:30 a.m. on Broadway near Washington Avenue on June 19. In the call, a woman said her former husband, 44-year-old Rosendo Sandoval Quezada, was at her home and she identified his vehicle.Officers were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue, but an officer spotted Quezada's reported vehicle near Broadway, where he pulled him over.The full incident video can be viewed here.Police say Quezada exited his vehicle holding a 3-foot-long crowbar and ran toward the officer, identified as "Officer Hamilton." The officer said Quezada was yelling something similar to "just kill me, I want to die" as he charged him.Police say the officer continued to tell Quezada to stop before he fired one round from his service weapon when he came within a few feet of him. Quezada reportedly paused and continued toward the officer, police say.The officer attempted to fire a second round, but his gun malfunctioned, according to police. The officer didn't activate his body-worn camera until after he fired the rounds, police said, after saying the officer's camera was active during the shooting.A nearby Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who was filling out paperwork in his vehicle witnessed the event unfold and assisted in the arrest, according to police.Quezada was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.EPD Chief Ed Varso said an investigation into the shooting is currently underway by the department's crimes of violence unit and an independent review of the case will be conducted by the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, U.S. Attorney's Office, and FBI.An internal review will also be completed, Varso said. 2280

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - An Encinitas restaurant is closed for deep cleaning after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.Kris Buchanan owns GOODONYA on S. Coast Highway 101. She closed the restaurant Sunday afternoon as soon as she found out her employee tested positive."Ironically, one of my best employees with the mask, like she never took that mask down," Kris Buchanan.Buchanan arranged for her staff of roughly 40 people to get tested for the virus antibodies Monday afternoon. If they test positive for antibodies, she'll pay for them to get the coronavirus test.The organic restaurant will reopen July 3, but only for pick up and delivery. Buchanan says the harassment her staff faced from some customers refusing to wear a mask isn't worth it."People take serious offense to that, I think, because of the health issue or maybe some sort of politically charged feeling about it, I don't know, " said Buchanan.She says fellow restaurant owners are dealing with similar issues."I'm friends with a few restaurant owners in Encinitas, and it's the same thing, coming in with that fake Facebook card that went around," said Buchanan.She said while most have been supportive, some customers have also made social distancing even more difficult by complaining about where they were seated."It's just a whole bunch of rigmarole here you're just trying to get their order and figure out if they want gluten-free or regular bread and you have this added layer of nonsense on top of it," said Buchanan.Since the pandemic hit, business is down roughly 50%, but Buchanan said her employees are her priority."More than the money, it's just worth me keeping my staff happy and safe," said Buchanan.GOODONYA will reopen Friday July 3, at 7 a.m. 1757

Peter and Brunie LaBozzetta were high school sweethearts and soulmates. They were married for 37 years before Peter passed away from kidney issues and a chronic heart condition in February."It was very, very hard. He was my everything," said LaBozzetta.In the depths of her grief, her future daughter-in-law gave her a gift, a silver pendant LaBozzetta filled with her husband's ashes. She hung it in her car. Peter was usually the navigator during a lifetime of drives together. "He was my co-pilot, and I wanted that to continue,' said LaBozzetta.Instead, the ride came to a halt Saturday afternoon in an apartment carport off Borden Road. She got in her car and immediately noticed the pendant was gone."Panic, scared, anger," said LaBozzetta.The flurry of emotions was sparked by a car break-in. LaBozzetta believes she locked the car, but isn't sure. Also stolen was her husband's disabled parking placard, which she was about to return to the state DMV. But it's the theft of that something priceless that's left her reeling. Eleven people fell ill after a suspicious letter was opened in an administrative building at Joint Base Fort Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, on Tuesday, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.Of the 11 individuals who felt ill, three were transported to a local hospital and are in a stable condition, a spokesperson for the department said."An envelope containing an unknown substance was received, today, aboard Joint Base Ft.Myer-Henderson Hall. Personnel in the affected building took immediate preventative measures by evacuating the building," according to Maj. Brian Block, a US Marine Corps spokesperson."Base officials and are coordinating with local HAZMAT teams and FBI. Several Marines are receiving medical care as a result of this incident.
