Tyson Foods may lay off more than 400 workers in the South Bay in an effort to become more efficient and save money.It would be the biggest layoff in San Diego County in more than a year.The company filed a layoff notice with the state this month saying it had to let 401 workers go from its Circle Foods label plant in Otay Mesa. "Tyson Foods, Inc. regrets that its team members at the San Diego, California facility must be permanently displaced yet hopes to accomplish this plant closing with the least possible disruption of lives of the tema members, their families, and the community," the notice says.Many of the workers make Mexican frozen food on the factory's assemblyline.A team from the San Diego Workforce Partnership has already been to the factory twice to help the workers find new opportunities. Also, Windsor Foods is buying Tyson's plant to expand its Mexican frozen food offerings. While it does plan to eliminate three tortilla lines, company VIce President Paul Taylor said the Windsor hopes to keep as many of the workers as possible.Andy Hall, chief operating officer of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, said he doesn't see the layoffs as a larger trend. After all, the unemployment rate is now near a 17-year-low of 3.3 percent. The layoffs are expected to occur by the end of April. Tyson in a statement said it is working on a transition plan with Windsor Foods, but will retain some operations here. VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis says the Christmas season provides reason for hope amid the difficulties of the coronavirus pandemic. Francis noted during his Sunday blessing that the Vatican’s Christmas tree had gone up this week in St. Peter’s Square, and work is underway to build the life-size Nativity scene next to it. Francis pointed to the tree from his studio window over the square and said such symbols of Christmas “are signs of hope, especially in this difficult period.” He urged the faithful to recall the true meaning of Christmas and lend a hand to the neediest. Using a Bible doesn’t make it better.A Nevada, Missouri, woman is facing charges of delivery or possession of a controlled substance into a county jail after she used a Bible in an attempt to deliver marijuana to an inmate in the Vernon County Jail.The woman walked into the jail Monday night asking to give a Bible to an inmate.A detention officer at the jail inspected the Bible and located marijuana in the book’s binding.Deputies arrested Ashley Despain on the charges.She is now also in the Vernon County Jail on a ,000 bond. 631

Under Armour announced on Thursday about 150 million accounts on the popular health app MyFitnessPal were hacked.The company said it learned four days ago that an unauthorized party accessed MyFitnessPal user data in February and it has begun notifying affected users of the security breach."Under Armour is working with leading data security firms to assist in its investigation, and also coordinating with law enforcement authorities," the firm said in a press release. "The company will be requiring MyFitnessPal users to change their passwords and is urging users to do so immediately."The affected data includes usernames, email addresses and hashed passwords. The company doesn't collect Social Security numbers or driver's license information, and payment card data wasn't affected because the company said it's collected and stored separately.MyFitnessPal is a mobile app used to track meals and exercise.
