BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's securities authority Thursday began reviewing applications of the the first seven IPOs for listing on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), a Nasdaq-style market in China. The seven enterprises covered fields of software, medical equipment and medicines. They planned to raise 2.27 billion yuan (332.65 million U.S. dollars). The review meeting was for the first time opened to journalists, who were allowed to watch the meeting for about ten minutes. The second batch of IPOs will be reviewed Friday and they plan to raise 1.13 billion yuan (165.30 million U.S. dollars), according to a report on the website of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). IPO review meetings would be concentrated on these days, a CSRC official, who declined to be named, told Xinhua Monday. "IPO applications sent to the regulator were concentrated. The regulator had to take into consideration forming a block and guard against speculation that might push up IPO stocks prices," the official said. The CSRC started to accept applications of the GEM on July 26 and had received 155 applications for IPOs on the GEM as of Sept. 10. The CSRC has formally agreed to handle 149 enterprises' applications that aim to raise 33.61 billion yuan (4.92 billion U.S. dollars).
BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said Monday it would extend anti-dumping duties on phthalic anhydride imported from the Republic of Korea, Japan and India for another five years after review investigation. Phthalic anhydride is an important industrial chemical mainly used in the mass production of plasticizers for plastics The imported phthalic anhydride would cause damage to Chinese industries should anti-dumping duties be lifted, said the ministry. The duties took effect Monday. On Jan. 7, China imposed anti-dumping measures on phthalic anhydride to offset negative impact on domestic producers.

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Hu Jintao on Thursday morning reviewed Chinese troops in central Beijing as the country celebrated the 60th National Day. Standing in a black open-roof limousine on Chang'an Avenue, Hu was greeted by Fang Fenghui, commander-in-chief of the full-dress military parade. Fang reported: "Comrade chairman, assembly of the reviewing troops is completed, please review!" Amid army songs played by a 1,300-member brass band, the home-made Red Flag limo drove eastward along Chang'an avenue, where Hu inspected 44 ground square formations composed of the three services of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), armed police, army reserves, and militia. HONG KONG, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China displayed a scale model of its jetliner C919,the country's first home-grown large commercial airliner, for the first time at the Asian Aerospace '09 on Tuesday. With a scale of one to ten, the model was so far "the most precise one put up for public display," said Guo Bozhi, president of the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute, a unit of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or COMAC. The mockup was displayed at a prominent position at the Asian Aerospace, Asia's leading air show, side by side with industry giants like Boeing and Airbus. Together with some ten other Chinese mainland-based manufacturers, suppliers and service providers at the show, it attracted attention of media from around the world. If successful, COMAC plans to produce 50 C919 aircraft each year at the early stage and annual production could reach 100 or even more at a later stage, depending on how it is received by the market, Guo said. XI'AN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has said efforts should be made to promote steady and fast industrial growth while improving the quality of economic development. Zhang made the remarks during a recent inspection tour in northwestern Shaanxi Province, underscoring the importance of adjusting industrial structure, promoting innovation and enhancing enterprise management. He pointed out that the country's economy has shown a momentum of recovery from the global economic downturn, with more positive signs emerging, but the reviving foundation was not solid enough. The government should stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, and give priority to ensuring economic growth, he said. More efforts should be exerted to expand domestic demand, carryout the massive economic stimulus plan, and promote stable and fast industrial development. Zhang also urged cutivating new industries, eliminating backward production capacities, and supporting backbone enterprises as well as small and medium-sized firms.
