San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System is gearing up for what it expects will be a busy week. According to MTS, service will be boosted by an extra 400,000 passenger trips throughout Comic-Con. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When the Chargers bolted north to the Los Angeles area, not only did they vacate what’s now known as SDCCU stadium, they also emptied out of their facility off Murphy Canyon Road.Formerly known as Chargers Park, the facility belongs to the City of San Diego. Team 10 discovered even though the site is vacant, the utility and maintenance bills continue to pile up.According to data analyzed by Team 10, the electric bill for August 2018 was ,949.78. The most recent water and wastewater bill from the end of June to the end of July 2018 shows a balance of more than ,000 and a year's worth of landscaping, maintenance, and fire safety repairs ran ,067.12.A city spokesperson said any vacant building still has operating and utility costs.“This is not a way to maximize taxpayer dollars,” said San Diego Councilmember David Alvarez, who saw the bills Team 10 received through a public information request.In 2017, Alvarez and Councilmember Lorie Zapf backed a plan that would have transformed the facility into a temporary homeless shelter. It didn’t happen.“We have a poor record and a history of not being able to use our real estate assets in a good way,” Alvarez said.Team 10 started looking into the operating costs after seeing a video posted to YouTube of people touring the facility.The guys from “The Somethin’ or Other Tour” took a peek around the building. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video taken in Mexico shows dozens of migrants climbing over the border fence in Border Field State Park. The video, provided to 10News by Joebeth Terriquez Espinoza with AFN, a news agency in Mexico, shows people successfully climbing over the fence and onto the beach on the U.S. side of the border just after 4 p.m. A spokesperson for Border Patrol says agents arrested people as soon as they crossed, preventing anyone from getting away. A total of 24 people, 18 men and six women, were taken into custody. According to Border Patrol, 23 of the people who crossed the border illegally were from Honduras while the 24th person was from Guatemala. RELATED: Asylum seekers waiting in Mexico arrive for hearings in US"The Tijuana Police Department responded to the scene, successfully dispersing a large crowd still south of the barrier, deescalating the situation," the spokesperson told 10News. All 24 people arrested were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wednesday, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot reported that 26 additional Marine Corps Recruits had been sickened by E. coli.Currently 214 recruits among the more than 5500 recruits in training at both MCRD and the command’s field training facilities at Camp Pendleton are symptomatic of E. coli.The total number dropped from a reported 302 Tuesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Youth sports leaders are holding a protest in front of the San Diego County Administration Building on Saturday to voice their concerns over the state’s regulations regarding games and competitions.Currently, under California's coronavirus restrictions, youth sports can practice, as long as six feet of social distancing can be maintained. Bob Turner is both Executive Director of Presidio Soccer League and President of the Southern California Youth Soccer Association and said the athletes should be able to play games.He said they have created safety plans, including spacing out the times of games and shortening games to avoid crowds, only allowing one parent for each athlete, and also requiring masks of all referees, parents, and substitute players. Turner said they’ve sent countless letters and filled out petitions to the state, but have not gotten a response. RELATED: County sends plan to resume youth sport practices to Gov. NewsomA spokesperson for San Diego County said the county has also been asked about plans for youth sports. They also asked the state and have not heard about what’s next.“This is small potatoes to them compared to a lot of the other things opening but it is our youth and what’s more important than our kids. This is the only outlet some of these kids have,” said Turner.Turner added that he’s heard of some athletes traveling to other states that have more relaxed restrictions so they can play in games and tournaments.Turner said counties in California are planning to all hold protests to voice their concerns. He said any athlete is welcome at their protest Saturday, and hopes the unified voices will be heard by the state.“We need to bring awareness.
