From flooding to tornadoes, a deadly storm system blew through parts of the country over the weekend.At least eight people are dead, including three children, after severe weather slammed the south.Lily Pierce survived a tornado in Mississippi, after she took cover for three hours inside a storm shelter.“All the sudden, you’re crashing on the floor crying, praying it’s not you,” Pierce told TV station WBMA.At least 18 tornadoes hit four states. Two children died, when a tree fell on their car during a tornado outbreak in Texas.“You can't imagine that happening. I would never think of that, you know, a tree hitting a car while you're going down the road, so it was very upsetting,” said neighbor Joe Spangler.The children’s mother ran to Spangler’s house. begging for help.“She was like 'help me, help me,' so I pulled her in the house, and I saw down the road that her husband was down there, so I ran down there to see what was going on,” Spangler told TV stations KTRE. “When I got down there, I mean, I saw the size of the tree and how it was on the car. Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas, when it made landfall as a Category 5 storm this week. Sarah Ann Showell, whose family owns a resort on the island, has now seen the catastrophic damage for herself. “They don’t look anything [like] they’re supposed to,” she says. “Entire buildings are flattened, trees are all snapped like toothpicks, there’s no greenery left.”She flew over Green Turtle Cay, a Bahamian island hit by hurricane Dorian, to see what the storm had done. "It’s actually hard to figure out what you’re looking at, and these are places that you know very well," Showell says.Showell needed to see what the storm did to her family's resort, Green Turtle Club, the largest employer on the island with about 50 employees. While the storm left its mark, she says everyone she knows who stayed on this island for Dorian is safe. Her marina's docks are still standing, but some of the club’s buildings and many other of the island's structures are destroyed.“From the air, it’s pretty crazy to see because it’s really hard to recognize places that you’ve been going your whole life," she says.She is now leading an effort to get help to the people of the Bahamas. Four people, including the UPS driver, are dead after a police chase involving a stolen package delivery truck ended in a shooting Thursday night.According to the FBI, the incident started when two armed suspects robbed the Regency Jewelers in Coral Gables at about 4:15 p.m. As the suspects ran from the scene, they hijacked a UPS truck and kidnapped the driver, prompting a chase.When the truck eventually stopped, both the suspects and law enforcement exchanged shots. The shooting killed both suspects, the UPS driver and an innocent bystander at the scene.Federal agents say it is too early to tell how the driver and the bystander were fatally shot.The innocent bystander was shot and killed at the location where the chase ended, according to federal agents.
