CINCINNATI -- A Blue Ash, Ohio nurse, worried she would be fired for being drunk at work, attempted to steal narcotic medications and flee from Cooper's Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on April 5, according to Hamilton County court documents.The medications stolen by 42-year-old Orlantha Shields included "combinations of morphine, fentanyl, codeine, oxycodone" and others, police said. "As she immediately left the facility, before the end of her shift and without proper medical supervision for the patients, she asked if anyone was going to tell on her and then exited the building," the affidavit for her arrest reads.A pharmacist taking stock of the assisted living facility's emergency supplies noticed the missing medication and Shields' signature in the logbook directly before the theft.Shields was indicted April 25 and charged with theft of dangerous drugs, a fourth-degree felony. 919

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man accused of fatally stabbing a man during a road-rage dispute in the South Bay is due in court for pre-trial motions Monday. Rickey Smith, 60, is accused of stabbing 36-year-old Horace Williams to death as Williams sat in his van. According to police, the incident happened on November 27, 2018 along Sweetwater Road. Witnesses told police Smith was following Williams’ van as the two yelled at each other. Witnesses told police the maneuver caused the crash. Police say Smith then got out of his truck and stabbed Williams. Chula Vista, CA (KGTV) - A Chula Vista City Council candidate running for District 4 says she is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19.Andrea Cardenas tells 10News she first started feeling symptoms on March 9th. She had a fever of 102, headaches, nausea and stomach pains. So, she called her doctor then went to seek medical care."When I went to Urgent Care, they asked me a few questions," she said. "They asked me if I had been in contact with someone who had tested positive and at the time I didn't know."She said because she is running for city council, she knew she was around many people on election night, but had no idea if anyone was carrying the coronavirus then."They had me do a chest x-ray where they accessed that I had pneumonia," she explained. "They said we could send you to the emergency room and have you tested but they explained the shortage of tests"She said her doctor explained that they were trying to hold the COVID-19 tests for the more vulnerable populations.Cardenas decided to just go home, self isolate, take the medication for pneumonia and hydrate."We have a social responsibility and a community responsibility to stay home," she said.Soon after, she was made aware that she had in fact been in contact with someone who contracted the coronavirus and she was tested immediately on the 16th.Her positive test results didn't come back until the 26th. "When I did test positive, I got a call from the county where they wanted to know my experience, all the symptoms that I had and where I had been," she said.Cardenas said she was fortunate to let the county officials know she had been home the entire time.She tells 10News has not left her home in 21 days and urges other who feel symptoms to immediately self-isolate and call their doctor."The moment that you feel any symptoms, just act as though you have it because it’s better to be safe than sorry," she said.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people who have COVID-19 have mild symptoms and can recover at home without medical care.The County of San Diego urges people to call their doctor or 211 if they have symptoms. 2160

China said Friday it will temporarily reduce tariffs on imports of American-made cars as it tries to negotiate a trade deal with the United States.Citing the meeting earlier this month between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the Chinese Finance Ministry said in a statement that it will remove the additional 25% tariffs on car imports from the United States for three months starting January 1. That will bring China's tariffs on American-made cars to 15%, in line with those for cars made in other countries.China also said it would suspend its 5% tariff on 67 other auto parts.China imposed the additional tariffs on US cars in July and on some auto parts in September as part of its retaliation in the trade war between the two countries.At their meeting in Argentina, Trump and Xi agreed to a temporary truce while they try to negotiate a broad trade deal over the next 90 days.In its statement Friday, the Finance Ministry described the decision to remove the tariffs as a "concrete action" aimed at helping to bring about a "mutually beneficial new Sino-US trade order."Xi pledged in April that China would cut tariffs on imported cars this year. His government delivered on that promise in July, reducing import taxes from 25% to 15%.But just days later, China imposed new additional tariffs of 25% on American-made passenger vehicles as the trade war with the United States escalated.The tariffs hurt profits of major automakers that ship cars to China from the United States. Germany's BMW and Daimler, the owner of Mercedes-Benz, have been hit particularly hard.
