Laguna. "We are creating a resort village here, we want people to have a certain vibration, and they're here to really get away, and they want to connect with other people on a similar type of wavelength," said Block. MIRAMAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A Marine was honored Thursday after disarming a gunman in the Chesterton neighborhood the week prior.Sgt. Jake McClung received the Navy Commendation Medal at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. According to the Navy and Marines Awards Manual, "It may be awarded to any service member who distinguishes themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement."San Diego Police got a call at 6:18 p.m. on June 4 of a man armed with a rifle, pointing it at families and hitting cars with the gun near Linda Vista Rd. and Wheatley St.McClung was driving through his neighborhood when he saw the man, identified as a Navy sailor in the police report, holding a rifle and threw a firecracker at his vehicle.Sgt. McClung said he parked in his driveway and watched the man walk into the street and point his rifle at cars. McClung said the man's wife and toddler came out to try and talk with him and were crying. McClung said the man pointed the rifle at his family and that's when McClung stepped between the gunman and the family to try and de-escalate the situation.He said the man was acting erratically and that gave the man's wife and child a chance to get inside. McClung said he teamed up with the neighborhood security guard and walked up to the man, trying to calm him.McClung said when he saw an opening he reached for the rifle and was able to disarm him, but he took a couple punches to the face, breaking his nose. McClung said he and the security guard wrestled the sailor to the ground and handcuffed him before police arrived."I don't know if he had PTSD of not, but if he was suicidal I also wanted to protect him, because he had a gun, he was in the middle of the street. The security guard later told me he was about to shoot him, so if that would have happened, it would have cost his life too. Even though he was obviously in the wrong, we have to take care of our own and sometimes taking care of our own means protecting them from themselves," McClung said.The man was arrested on several felony charges, including felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of an illegal assault weapon, possession of a large capacity magazine. More than a million chainsaws from Harbor Freight Tools are being recalled because the power switch can malfunction causing a serious injury hazard. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, even after the power switch is moved to the "off" position the chainsaws can continue to operate.Harbor Freight Tools has received 15 reports of chainsaws continuing to operate after being turned, resulting in three laceration injuries — including one serious injury to the arm requiring stitches.The recall includes two models of 14-inch chainsaws sold under three different brand names: 623

MURRIETA, Calif. (KGTV) -- One second she was getting the all-clear to go into the home, and the next the walls crumbled around her. A mother trapped inside when a Murrieta home when it exploded says there’s only one reason she made it out alive. "I just saw everything crashing down around me, and I thought I was dead, I thought that was it,” said Alexis Haaland, who was inside home when it blew up. Looking at the house Tuesday, Haaland says she’s still in shock she walked away from the explosion with only a few scratches. "I just stood still and I covered my head and I was screaming oh my god, just hoping nothing hit me."Haaland was having solar panels installed at the home she lived in with her family for about a month. She says the solar company told her they hit a gas line and that she should probably leave. She took her two kids and put them outside with her mother and little brother in their van. Haaland says a firefighter told her she could go back in and get her wallet and diaper bag. That’s when the home exploded. "I just knew I had to get out, and I ran to my mom and my kids and my mom just looked at me and was like how did you get out of there."Haaland says she got out through a window that was shattered in the blast. She says she was standing by a wall, the only one left standing after the home exploded. "I'm really shook up still, having a couple panic attacks and stuff, but I'm alive, and that's all that really matters."Haaland says she’s thankful that her kids were outside the home. She says the moments after the explosion were tough, adding that her thoughts are with the man killed in the explosion and those who were injured. "There wasn't much sleep last night. Pretty much any loud noise woke me up."The family says the community has stepped up and offered to help them after they lost everything in the blast. 1865
