AUCKLAND, New Zealand, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of three major cities on the Pacific rim, from China, New Zealand and the United States, gathered in Auckland on Monday for the second Tripartite Economic Summit to build a new form of international cooperation.

"The future of space exploration lies in international cooperation. It's true for us, and for the United States too," according to the senior astronaut.

Firstly, Zhou called on the media outlets from both countries to become promoters of bilateral relations, focusing on the coverage of development in and the friendly exchanges between the two countries.

As Laos this year holds the rotating chair of the Aossociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China is willing to cooperate closely with Laos and join hands with other ASEAN nations to push the China-ASEAN relations to a new high by successfully holding events like the summit marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN dialogue relations and events celebrating the year of China-ASEAN educational exchange, the Chinese minister said.

"China's stance on the East and South China Seas are consistent and clear," said the spokesman, adding that it is completely within China's sovereignty to build structures on some of its Nansha islands and reefs and that there is no problem with freedom of navigation and overflight in the East and South China Seas.
