DENVER — An Uber driver kicked a passenger out of their vehicle after a passenger who claimed to have COVID-19 took off her mask, started coughing and refused to put it back on.The Uber driver, who asked to remain anonymous, says he picked up the passenger just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Denver.He said the passenger got in the car with a mask on, but she started coughing and took it off once she was inside."You know in this day and age, you should probably have a mask, especially since it's the law and you're sick," the driver told the passenger, according to dash camera video.The woman told the driver that she's not sick. But later, the driver asked if she had COVID-19."Yep, sure do," the passenger said."You said you did?" the driver responded. "Is that the truth? Please, it's my life."The woman ignored the driver and said he needed to take her to her destination. The driver then lost his temper and kicked the woman out of his car."I was angry that someone would be so callous and cavalier with my life," the driver said. "At the end of the ride, when she got out, she said, you've got COVID-19."He filed a complaint with Uber and received an email stating that they would reach out to the rider and take appropriate action. But the driver said someone else ordered the ride for the woman."In this instance, I don't know that Uber could have done anything differently," he said. "She had a mask on when she got in. She was doing everything that she was supposed to."Uber policy requires drivers and passengers to wear a mask and adds that drivers can cancel trips if they don't feel comfortable.In response to a request for comment, Uber laid out the policy and procedures it has implemented in the hopes of keeping people safe, which includes denying passengers access to Uber if they repeatedly violate the mask policy."Her lack of caring for another person is costing me my livelihood as well as potentially getting sick and possibly worse," the driver said.He says he began driving for Uber more than a year ago and has picked up and dropped off hundreds of passengers. DEL MAR (CNS) - A 3-year-old filly suffered a fatal injury during a morning workout Saturday at the Del Mar.Lovely Lilia pulled up after the workout at about 5 a.m. and veterinarians said the horse could not be saved and was euthanized, according to Mac McBride, Del Mar's director of media.Lovely Lilia was eased in her final race, a mile turf race at Santa Anita Park June 12, which she led at the halfway point.Lovely Lilia made seven starts, winning twice and finishing second once, earning ,551.Del Mar made the safety of people and horses the leading theme of its 81st summer meet which began Friday with no fans in the stands for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic.The meet's horse and rider safety initiatives amplified measures Del Mar introduced over the last several seasons of racing that led it to being recognized as one the nation's safest racetracks for 2018 and 2019, according to figures from The Jockey Club's Equine Injury Database provided by the track.Del Mar had a rate of 0.79 fatal injuries per 1,000 starts in 2018 and 0.62 in 2019. The national average for track's reporting was 1.68.While there were no racing deaths, there were four training deaths during last year's summer meet and three racing deaths and two in training during the fall meet.Del Mar is continuing its Entry Review Panel of regulatory veterinarians who will oversee the entries of all horses and provide an additional review of each of their medical, training and racing histories. The panel will recommend to the track's stewards that any horse it deems unfit for competition be barred from racing.Del Mar is furthering its adoption of reforms modeled after the International Federation Horseracing Association requirements. Rules surrounding nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories have been enhanced and extended, and additional rules regarding other equine medications have been clarified and codified.Random testing will continue for any horse at Del Mar, including ones readying for, or having just completed, morning workouts.Just as they were last summer, veterinarians are stationed at elevated observation points at the facility to oversee morning workouts and will have the ability -- through communication with outriders -- to remove horses from the racetrack and have them undergo a follow-up soundness examination.Exercise riders and jockeys again will be prohibited from using a riding crop to encourage their horses during morning workouts.The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club created a stakeholder advisory committee last summer represented by trainers, veterinarians, jockeys, racing surfaces maintenance personnel and management that met regularly to discuss safety practices, operations and track surfaces. DETROIT — A bond between two 12-year-old boys is now helping a Detroit mother in her grief. After surviving two bouts with cancer, little KJ Gross' time on earth was cut short by the side effects of treatment. Now, KJ's best friend is helping his mom get some closure. KJ had defeated cancer twice in his young life, his mom San Singleton said. He had been free of the disease for six years when he landed back in the hospital from congestive heart failure."We packed up and we moved into the hospital," Singleton said. "And everything that they did for KJ thinking it would give him a better quality of life, it did the opposite."KJ would not leave the hospital again, but found support in his best friend from school, 12-year-old Kaleb Klakulak. The boys both liked to play video games and paint. They were inseparable, and Kaleb's visits became a light in the darkness for KJ.  923

DELANO, Calif. -- Police in Central California have asked prosecutors to look into filing criminal charges against two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents involved in a deadly chase, according to the Associated Press.Authorities say Santo Garcia and Marcelina Garcia died in rural Delano in March when their SUV hit a pole and overturned as they ran from ICE agents.Police in Delano determined that ICE agents pulled over the SUV before the crash. Agents got out of their vehicle but the driver of the SUV took off.RELATED: Immigration and Customs Enforcement stop followed by deadly crash in Central Valley?Police said the SUV was speeding when the driver lost control after driving onto a dirt shoulder.Santo and Marcelina were in the country illegally but Santos was not the man agents were searching for, police said.  Police recommended that the agents be charged with a misdemeanor of providing false information to a peace officer. 973

DENVER – A natural gas explosion caused at least one building to partially collapse Tuesday in Denver, injuring nine people. Simon Crittle, a spokesperson for Denver Health Medical Center, said two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance after the explosion and collapse. One of the people suffered traumatic injuries in the explosion. The other person was stable Tuesday afternoon.Crittle said that several other people were being treated at the scene of the explosion and collapse and that first responders were looking for other possible victims.Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley said the explosion was reported at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and said several buildings were damaged in the area. One person who had been trapped was rescued by firefighters.Pixley said that crews were working to put out an active fire at the scene in addition to working to reduce the chance of other explosions in the area and further collapses. He said there were no reported deaths as of 2:10 p.m.An Xcel Energy spokeswoman on scene said all of the company equipment is intact up to the meters, meaning the explosion was likely caused by a customer. Xcel is working to turn off gas remotely. The spokeswoman said the company has a distribution site at Lipan Street and Santa Fe Drive and staff at that location said they felt the explosion.Eileen Andrews, who owns the nearby Baker Neighborhood Market, said she saw a man run from the wreckage of the explosion who had his clothes blown almost entirely off his body and that the man suffered burns."I mean everything was exposed -- he barely had a couple strings left of his pants. He was completely exposed and said he didn't know what happened," she said. "It was just like the biggest, loudest boom I've ever heard."She said some men who had been working on her business' HVAC system ran over to help the man and another trapped woman.Another neighbor, Edward Scott, said he was on the phone with his insurance company at his nearby home when the explosion happened."[The insurance agent] was on the phone with me going, 'What happened, what happened?' and I said, 'I don't know, I think my house just blew up,'" Scott said.He said he was hit by wood debris from the explosion and that the shockwave from the blast was so intense he thought his own home had exploded. When he realized it was another home across the street, he said he walked over to the scene and saw a person rescued from the rubble."It was two people ... a lady. And then this guy picked her up and firemen carried her out of the house," Scott said. "And then the other one ... and they were boyfriend-girlfriend and they were both bartenders and they were sleeping."Scott said the woman had been looking for her cat, which was missing, but which was later discovered alive at the scene. 2827
