SANTEE, Calif. (CNS) - A San Diego County Sheriff's Department employee was behind bars Thursday morning on suspicion of burglary and identity theft, authorities said.Estella Velez, a 54-year-old licensed vocational nurse at the Vista Detention Facility, and her alleged accomplice, 44-year-old Raul Rios, were taken into custody Wednesday, sheriff's Lt. Nancy Blanco said.The pair is suspected of stealing a woman's purse in the 5500 block of Mission Road in Bonsall on July 10, then using the victim's credit card at several locations in North County, Blanco said.Rios and Velez were also seen on video surveillance in two attempted commercial burglaries in the 1700 block of East Vista Way in Vista on July 21 and 23, the lieutenant said.Velez was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee and Rios was booked into San Diego Central Jail, according to jail records. They both face multiple felony counts of burglary, conspiracy and theft.Velez was being held in lieu of 5,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Aug. 14. SANTA ANA (CNS) - Two more people in Orange County have tested positive locally for the novel coronavirus, health officials said today, but federal test results are still pending to confirm the diagnoses.According to the Orange County Health Care Agency, the cases are a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s who had recently traveled to countries with widespread outbreaks of what is officially known as COVID-19. The pair tested positive in Orange County, but test results were sent to the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the results. "The more you look for something, the more likely you are to find it," said Dr. Nichole Quick, the county's health officer. "Now that our Public Health Laboratory is able to perform COVID-19 testing, we expect to see more cases here in Orange County. Our residents should take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses like covering your coughs and sneezes, avoiding touching your face, and washing your hands frequently."Another person in the county who contracted the virus earlier this year has fully recovered.The news comes as organizers of the second biggest annual convention in Anaheim announced the postponement of the event due to concerns over the virus. Carrillo has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Santa Cruz sheriff’s sergeant Damon Gutzwiller on Saturday afternoon in Ben Lomond, an unincorporated area near Santa Cruz. Got a few screws loose, I guess,” Russell could be heard saying. “Never really knew it, until now."One of Russell's co-workers was surprised to hear his voice."You could tell he was in pain,” says Jeremy Kaelin, a former co-worker of Russell. “Kind of seemed a little delusional, and I was just shocked to see that someone who was so nice, so helpful and caring, actually he cared about his job, to do such a thing and you know and end his life."Russell had access to secure aircraft areas as a ground service agent and had knowledge on taxiing planes around the airport.Protocol requires two people to be present to tow the plane. Authorities are still unsure how Russell managed to access the plane alone and move it by himself."We believe he was in uniform,” says Brad Tilden, CEO of Alaska Airlines. “His job is to be around airplanes. He is tow certified, so he's meant to be-- airports have a non-secure side and a secure side. He's meant to be on the secure side.
