The lawyers filed papers Thursday in federal court in Manhattan to repel an effort by the Boy Scouts to toss out a 2-year-old trademark infringement lawsuit. Lawyers for the Boy Scouts last month asked a judge to reject claims that the organization is infringing on trademarks when it recruits girls with words like “scouts" and “scouting.” The Girl Scouts say in their filing that the Boy Scouts' marketing of expanded services for girls is “highly damaging.” 648

Nine-year-old Nariya White loves to concoct slime and make lip gloss. She's an aspiring scientist and an expert at turning simple ingredients into original products. So when she was bullied this past school year, she turned that experience into something positive.“Two girls were bullying me, and I just decided I should make a book about bullying," said White.In March, she wrote a book called "A Slimetastic Day." It was recently published and is available on Amazon.The book is about "encouragement." When two boys call girls dumb, the girls initially become discouraged, but then the girls challenge the boys to slime making competition. The girls use their creativity and knowledge to prevail. White hopes her book inspires other children.“The book was about bullying, so if someone in your school or on the street is bullying you, you shouldn’t really care about it because you have your family, cousins, and friends that care about you," White said.White's mother Kina knew the book would be a bestseller with family and friends but said she didn't expect all the praise they've received from strangers. Nevada, Oregon and Washington have all agreed to join California in its plan to allow an independent group of health experts to review the safety and efficacy of any COVID-19 vaccines before they're approved for use in their states.Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee — all of them Democrats — said Tuesday that they had agreed to join fellow Democrat, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in subjecting any COVID-19 vaccines approved for emergency authorization use to further review by a panel of scientists and health experts.According to a press release from Sisolak's office, the group's goal is that the additional review would not cause a delay in the distribution of vaccines."When the time comes, Nevadans will be able to feel confident in the safety of the vaccine knowing that an independent review by experts across the West gave it their seal of approval," Sisolak said in a statement."The FDA has made public information about the data required for authorizing a vaccine. That, combined with two independent federal groups, and our own Western States review process, should give the public pretty high confidence on the safety and efficacy of a COVID-19 vaccine," Inslee said in a statement. New Orleans city officials have set a tentative date to remove the bodies of two workers that have been trapped inside a partially-collapsed construction site since October.The efforts to recover the bodies of the workers trapped in the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel construction site could begin as early as July 13, according to NOLA.com.A spokesman for the city said in a press briefing on Tuesday that crews have finished taking down three buildings that surround the hotel and are currently assembling cranes to work on the building itself.Crews could begin working on the hotel by Monday, and officials say it could take four to five days before rescuers can remove the remains of the two workers.The two workers were killed in a partial collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in downtown New Orleans on Oct. 12.
