PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The suspect in a fatal stabbing in Rhode Island last month was apprehended apparently trying to cross from California into Mexico.U. S. Border Patrol says 35-year-old Michael Domenech approached the checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, in a car at about 2 a.m. Saturday.When agents approached the driver, he drove away from the checkpoint. Authorities say agents used a tire deflation device to deflate one of the car's tires.The pursuit continued for 20 minutes until Domenech was taken into custody.Domenech is wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Cory Vargas in Providence on Sept. 24. 640

Repealing Obamacare's individual mandate would give GOP lawmakers an additional 8 billion over 10 years to help pay for their proposed tax cuts.The Congressional Budget Office updated its estimate Wednesday in response to lawmakers' interest. Republicans are considering axing the unpopular provision -- which requires nearly all Americans to have coverage or pay a penalty -- though it's not included in the current House tax reform bill.A CBO score published in December found nixing the mandate would save 6 billion over a decade. While the federal government would lose some revenue from the penalty's elimination, it would make up that and more because fewer people would have federally subsidized policies, the CBO says. Restaurants in Los Angeles County will be open for delivery, take-out and drive-thru services only for three weeks beginning Wednesday in the hopes of preventing the spread of COVID-19, according to The Los Angeles Times and KABC-TV.Restaurants, bar, breweries and wineries in LA County had been open with outdoor seating only. However, officials have moved to restrict all in-person dining as cases in the county have spiked in recent weeks — just as they have across the country.Breweries and wineries can continue selling alcohol in a retail setting."To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive thru, and delivery services," the county's Department of Public Health said in a news release. "Wineries and breweries may continue their retail operations adhering to current protocols. In person dining will not be allowed, at minimum, for the next 3 weeks."The restrictions came after county officials warned that further action would be taken if the county's five-day average of daily cases rose above 4,000 a day.
