(KGTV) - Neighbors say several aggressive coyotes are treating some South Bay parks as their hunting ground, attacking pets of all sizes.Along East Naples Street, surveillance video captured a hard-to-watch scene a few weeks ago in Patty Prescott's yard: a coyote toying with a feral kitten that Prescott was caring for."I ran out of the house. I started yelling, waving my arms. That's when the coyote dropped the kitten," said Prescott.Sadly, the kitten died. Prescott says coyote sightings have surged in the neighborhood, with more than six pets killed in the last month. Just to the south, at Max Field, home to little league fields, neighbors have been reporting several aggressive coyotes roaming the baseball fields and nearby Loma Verde Park since the start of the pandemic."Frightening. No fear of people. You make noise, and they take a step back and then stare you down. Now they're coming out earlier, throughout the day, any time throughout the day. They're searching and looking," said neighbor Rachel Morineau.Park goers say the coyotes are going after dogs of all sizes. In late May, cellphone video showed one of the coyotes leaping a park fence and attacking a large pit bull, before its owner chased it off.The coyotes' behavior has unnerved neighbors."I don't feel safe, even in my front yard," said Prescott.A group of neighbors has banned together, starting a Gofundme campaign to address the issue. Their concerns grabbed the attention of City Councilman Mike Diaz, who secured funding to trap the coyotes. Because state laws don't allow for them to be relocated, they will be euthanized."It's not something we wanted to do, but they are getting very aggressive, and it's the only option California gives us," said Morineau.Until they're trapped, Prescott plans to defend herself and her other cats."My son sent me a pellet gun, and I plan on using it for my protection," said Prescott.Councilman Diaz says the funding will also help form a long-term plan looking at the presence of coyotes in the city. 2055

(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Chula Vista, police announced Tuesday.On May 15, Chula Vista police were called to the 200 block of G Street in response to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon officers’ arrival, Fredrick Wood was found on the ground with gunshot wounds.Wood was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.Through their investigation, police learned Wood was “shot inside a nearby residence belonging to Enrique Delgado. The victim then ran into the street after being shot, where he collapsed.”Police said Delgado was nowhere to be found.According to police, investigators tracked down Delgado on June 11 at a motorhome in San Diego. Police said Delgado “admitted to shooting Mr. Wood during a dispute, refused to surrender and stated he was armed with a firearm.”A SWAT team was called to the scene as Delgado barricaded himself in the motorhome. He eventually surrendered without incident.Police reported “several firearms and a large quantity of narcotics were also located inside Delgado’s motorhome at the time of arrest.”Delgado was booked into jail and faces charges of murder, possession of narcotics for sale, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm and having a concealed weapon in a vehicle. 1468

(KGTV)- The Chula Vista Police Department is debuting a first-of-its-kind program allowing officers to listen in on 911 calls in real time.If you live in Chula Vista and need to call to 911, there's a good chance the person who takes your call won't be the only one listening."Essentially the community is talking directly to officers and getting that information relayed to them immediately," said Lt. Don Redmond, who oversaw the project.The brainchild of a Chula Vista police officer, the department partnered with HigherGround, a dispatch software company, to create Live 911, which allows officers to hear 911 calls inside their vehicles. Here's how it works. Patrol officers can pick an area near them - say a half-mile radius - and listen to any 911 call as it comes in."They're hearing real-time information, as opposed to the inherent delays in dispatching," said Lt. Redmond.Right now, 911 calls are taken by a person who inputs information. A dispatcher reads that information and radios officers to respond. Lt. Redmond says that process can take several minutes. Those minutes could become critical."If it save us two or three minutes, that could be a life that we save," said Lt. Redmond.After a six-month test, Live911 went into all police vehicles in mid-May. Already, there have been examples of quicker response times. On one occasion, an officer got to a home within a few minutes - in the middle of the 911 call - and rendered medical aid. Lt. Redmond says Live911 will also help officers respond better. Because dispatch can relay only so much information, officers in the past only got part of the picture."The officers can hear everything, they are picking up on clues that could be left out," said Lt. Redmond.Those clues could include a person's tone and urgency, and any details that could help an officer better assess or deescalate a situation."We feel like Live911 can be a game changer for law enforcement in general," said Lt. Jessica Davis has been teaching in the Sweetwater Union High School District for almost five years. She's just one of more than 220 layoffs in the district's effort to balance the budget that's been crippling for years."I really poured my heart and soul into my career," said Davis. CINCINNATI -- A 911 operator who was placed on leave after a teen's death will return to work Wednesday.Police spokeswoman Tiffaney Hardy couldn't say if that operator, Amber Smith, would face any discipline because an investigation is continuing.Smith took the second call Kyle Plush placed to 911 as he suffocated in his van outside Seven Hills School.
