(KGTV) – A 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after police said he was driving a SUV that rolled over at a Chula Vista rock quarry.Police said the incident happened at around 2 a.m. Wednesday in an area off Hard Rock Road, near Heritage Road.According to police, an SUV driven by the teen crashed through a gate at a rock quarry and then rolled over. Witnesses reported seeing several juveniles get out of the wreckage and run away from the scene.The 13-year-old driver remained with the SUV and was questioned by police before being transported to the hospital. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista Police Department received a nearly 0,000 grant to help fight human trafficking, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday.According to the department, Chula Vista Police is the only local law enforcement department in California to receive the grant.The money was granted to the department through the Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) Community Policing Development (CPD) Microgrants Program.“Additional funds to respond to the threat of human trafficking are particularly important now,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “The coronavirus pandemic has young people spending countless hours on their phones, and unfortunately this renders them prey for human traffickers who exploit social media.” “The CPD Microgrants Program is a critical resource to advance innovative community policing projects across the country,” said COPS Office Director Phil Keith. “These strategic investments from the COPS Office pay huge dividends to state and local law enforcement agencies and the communities that they serve.”A total of 29 law enforcement agencies throughout the country were awarded similar grants.According to the DOJ, the money is granted to departments to improve enforcement in the following areas:? (KGTV) — Six people were arrested Tuesday during a demonstration over flu shots for detained migrants.More than 100 people, many of whom are medical professionals, gathered outside Chula Vista's Customs and Border Protection headquarters to call for a meeting over healthcare policies for detainees. Demonstrators say doctors offering free flu clinic services at the Chula Vista Border Patrol Station on Monday were turned away. The group added that a free pilot program was also rejected by the Trump Administration.Tuesday, some protesters took to lying across the headquarters driveway during the demonstration, prompting authorities to declare the gathering an unlawful assembly. Demonstrators were given six minutes to disperse, before officers arrested the six individuals.Demonstrators say the lack of flu clinic services for those inside detention centers poses a health risk to them and the public."Flu deaths are preventable and large scale vaccination is not unprecedented. Our government has undertaken similar efforts in the past and has the resources to do so now," doctor Marie DeLuca, of Doctors For Camp Closures, said. (KGTV) - Chula Vista’s Police Chief and a city councilman hosted a public safety meeting in a community where most would think safety isn’t an issue.  Chief Roxana Kennedy and Councilman John McCann met with several residents Wednesday night at the Montevalle Community Center.“I feel the balance is like this:  Housing, people, lights, traffic, less parking and police protection and presence are here,” said Chula Vista resident Dianne Farsetta while holding one hand up and one hand down. “It is a little scary.  We want to be in a safe environment.”Community groups on Facebook and Nextdoor appear to post more instances of crimes throughout the communities of Eastlake and Otay Ranch. (KGTV) - Police have arrested three people in the death of a man found slumped over the steering wheel of his still moving vehicle.Chula Vista Police arrested Britney Canal, 29, of Chula Vista, Cesar Alvarado, 39, of National City, and Michael Pedraza, 27, of San Diego, in the murder of 59-year-old Mario Serhan.Witnesses found Serhan slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound to the head just before 1 p.m. on April 11.
