BABSON PARK, Fla. — A second university in Polk County, Florida has announced that they will be joining a program that will allow its staff and faculty to legally carry guns on campus.The announcement comes just eight days after a gunman opened fire on a Florida high school killing 17 people.The Polk County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Webber International University, is establishing the Sheriff's Sentinel Program to enhance the safety of an already safe and secure community of students, faculty, staff, and guests at the University's campus in Babson Park, Florida."Prayers are not enough," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a press conference on Thursday. “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."Sheriff Judd explained that each teacher or staff member will have to go through extensive training through the program before they are given a gun."My babies — your babies — are in that classroom, and that active shooter is coming down the hallway with that thousand yard stare and that gun in their hand, do you want somebody to step out and stop him? (AP) — The nonprofit organization that owns a majority of California’s Santa Catalina Island plans to boost eco-tourism by adding more bison to existing herds, recharging a debate over their environmental impacts. The Los Angeles Times reports the Catalina Island Conservancy says there has not been a bison calf born on the island in seven years and the herd size has dwindled to 100. The conservancy board is working to bring two pregnant bison to the island. A biologist says bison herds stay on isolated patches of grass and adding more animals will not result in more bison sightings by eco-tourists. 628

Authorities have now found two packages addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden that are similar in appearance and contain potential explosive devices that resemble the others sent earlier this week to prominent critics of President Donald Trump and CNN, a law enforcement official said Thursday.The two packages, discovered at Delaware postal facilities, were removed late Thursday morning, law enforcement officials said.Earlier Thursday, a suspicious package addressed to actor-director Robert De Niro was reported at the Manhattan building where his production company is based, and its marking and contents appear similar to the other pipe bomb packages, two law enforcement sources said.The FBI said Thursday morning that the three packages are "similar in appearance to the others."A manhunt is underway for the perpetrator behind the packages.
