MOSCOW, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Donald Tsang Yan-Kuen voiced their support here on Tuesday for the development of more direct links between Russia and Hong Kong.Tsang arrived in Moscow by the first ever direct commercial flight run by a Hong Kong airline.Tsang noted that after the lifting of visa restrictions in July 2009, two-way travels between Russia and Hong Kong rose by 100 percent."I am certain this flow will be increasing further," he was quoted as saying by local news agencies."The updating of the relevant listing rules in June this year would facilitate the listing of (Russian) mining and resource companies in Hong Kong," said Tsang.He also encouraged Russian companies to issue RMB bonds in Hong Kong, and welcomed Russian banks to set up branches in Hong Kong and make use of the RMB clearing and settlement system.Tsang was accompanied by 30 Hong Kong businessmen who were interested in cooperation with Russia."I hope that your meeting here in Moscow, including with members of the business community, will be useful," said Medvedev.The Russian president also invited Tsang to discuss the further advancement of bilateral cooperation as well as some key international issues.

BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Marine Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct a joint drill with their counterpart of Thailand, China's Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday.Called "Blue Assault-2010," the joint drill will take place in Sattahip, Thailand, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 14, a ministry statement said.The joint training exercise will be the first for the PLA marines, according to the statement.The joint drill will focus on anti-terrorism. It will also aim at helping marines from Thailand and China learn from each other, enhance mutual understanding, step up friendly exchange and cooperation in a bid to improve the capabilities of both countries' marine corps to handle new challenges and threats together.

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks rose for a third straight trading day Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing up 0.96 percent, or 30.01 points, at 3,159.51.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.54 percent, or 73.94 points, to finish at 13,807.3.Combined turnover declined to 453.1 billion yuan (68 billion U.S. dollars) from 459.17 billion yuan the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers 743 to 132 in Shanghai and 950 to 140 in Shenzhen.Agricultural shares led the gains with a 5.39 percent rise amid increased inflation expectations and surging farm product prices.Some economists believe China's consumer price index (CPI), the main gauge of inflation, jumped 4 percent year on year in October.Yasheng Industrial Group, Yongan Forestry Group and Fengle Seed Company all rose by the daily limit of 10 percent, ending at 6.47 yuan, 12.84 yuan and 20.77 yuan, respectively.Local stocks in Shanghai continued their surge after Walt Disney Co. inked a deal Friday for its long-awaited theme park in the city.Shanghai Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd rose 4.8 percent to 22.7 yuan while Shanghai Pudong Road and Bridge Construction Co. BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's central government will, for the first time, reserve vacancies for farmers and workers in this year's nationwide civil service exams.The announcement was made on Wednesday by the State Administration of Civil Service (SACS), which is in charge of recruiting central government employees.Millions of farmers living in the country's rural areas were not allowed to take the exam selecting central government officials until 2006, when the restriction of household registration, or hukou, was lifted.According to the administration, those reserved vacancies will be allocated among departments of the customs, state taxation and railway police at country-level or below.The SACS posted a notice for the exams on its website, but did not specify the number of reserved vacancies.The central government plans to recruit more than 16,000 public servants in 2011, 1,000 more than in 2010. About 85 percent of the vacancies require at least two-years grassroots work experience, up 15 percentage points from the previous year.The SACS also revealed that 100 positions were specially created for college graduates who had served in villages to encourage more college students to work in rural regions after graduation.Registration for this year's exams will start on Friday.
