President Donald Trump once again floated the idea of adding a "Space Force" as a branch of the US military on Tuesday at the White House.Trump's comments came as he presented the Army college football team with the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, annually awarded to the best college football team among Army, Navy and Air Force."You will be part of the five proud branches of the United States Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and the Coast Guard," Trump said, addressing the Army football team. "And we're actually thinking about a sixth, and that would be the Space Force. Does that make sense?" Trump said. "... because we're getting very big in space, both militarily and for other reasons, and we're seriously thinking about the Space Force."Tuesday wasn't the first time Trump has floated the idea of a military branch dedicated for fighting wars in space. In March at a speech in San Diego, Trump broached the idea for the first time publicly."We may even have a 'space force,'" Trump said, according to Scripps station KGTV in San Diego. "We're doing a tremendous amount of work in space. I said maybe we'll need a new force. We'll call it 'the space force.'""Our service members will be vital to ensuring America continues to lead the way into the stars," Trump continued. "We're way, way behind."The Washington Post points out that the United States signed the Outer Space Treaty in 1967, promising not to test weapons in outer space or establish military bases on the moon or other celestial bodies — though it points out that there is no enforcement mechanism in place to stop the US from doing so.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) Poway's mayor is responding to critics who are slamming him for how he handled the recent boil water advisory. Nearly 200 businesses were forced to close for six days over fears that the water might have been contaminated during recent storms. Tuesday morning, a group calling itself "The East County Coalition for Clean Water" held a news conference at Lake Poway. The members are from the Helix and Lakeside Water Districts, and one is from the San Diego County Water Authority. The regional water officials said they'd been getting calls from constituents worried about their water supply, which was not affected by the boil water advisory. "The mishandling of the Poway contamination incident erodes the confidence of the public of all the water boards," said Lakeside Water District Member Frank Hilliker, who said he was speaking as a private citizen and not in an official capacity.Hilliker said Poway Mayor Steve Vaus was "asleep at the wheel." "The buck stops with the mayor of Poway, and he was slow to react," said Hilliker. Hilliker also said it was irresponsible for the mayor to say he was continuing to drink the water before testing was complete.Mayor Vaus said he wouldn't do anything differently. "I told people I was drinking water. I did drink the water. I gave it to my pets, cause I knew and I repeatedly said, all of our tests were fine. Sacramento was way behind Poway in getting their clearances," said Mayor Vaus. The mayor said the criticism has more to do with dirty politics than dirty water. "These are a bunch of elected's doing the dirty work for a desperate and disgraced candidate for county supervisor," said Vaus. The mayor is referring to former state Senator Joel Anderson, who is running against Vaus in the race for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. "All 4 or 5 people who were listed on the press release are supporting my opponent in the county supervisor race, an opponent who is in desperate straights according to the polling," said Vaus. When reporters asked Hilliker if he was supporting Anderson, he insisted the news conference was about public safety."How is that relevant to public safety? Again, we're talking about public safety and clean water," said Hilliker. The group also blamed the mayor for not maintaining equipment. Last week, a state official indicated that part of the system was not in compliance with state regulations. "There was a comment in the media from someone with the State Water Quality Control Board saying something or other was wrong with our set up. Well, our set up has been the same for 50 years. We've maintained it impeccably, he signed off on it a few months ago, nothing has changed since then," said Mayor Vaus. The mayor said the city would submit an incident report to the state and make any necessary repairs.Meanwhile, the Poway Chamber of Commerce is launching restaurant month until January 10th in an attempt to help the businesses. 2963

President Donald Trump has been nominated a third time for the Nobel Peace Prize, this time by a group of Australian lawyers who praised his role in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).“What he has done with the Trump Doctrine is that he has decided he would no longer have America involved in endless wars, wars which achieve nothing but the killing of thousands of young Americans and enormous debts imposed on America," Australian legal scholar David Flint told Sky News Australia on Sunday.President Trump was first nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize by a Norwegian Parliament member for his role in the UAE-Israel peace deal early in September. Then, a Swedish Parliament member nominated Trump after he helped secure a deal for normalized economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Also this week, former Vice President Joe Biden was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by a member of the British Parliament.“When others have resorted to violent solutions, he has argued that the best force is the force of argument,” Chris Bryant told the Evening Standard. “Because guns can stop a heart but well-placed words can change many hearts, and many hearts can change a world.”The Norwegian Nobel Committee begins accepting nominations in September for the following year. The deadline to submit a nomination is February 1 for the year of the award. Winners are then announced in early October. Both Trump and Biden’s nominations will be considered for the 2021 prize. There is no minimum or maximum number of nominations a person or group needs in order to be considered for the Nobel awards. The Nobel Committee has a 50-year secrecy rule on naming nominees. The group will not release the name of any nominee to the media, to the nominee themselves, or anyone until after 50 years.“In so far as certain names crop up in the advance speculations as to who will be awarded any given year’s Prize, this is either sheer guesswork or information put out by the person or persons behind the nomination,” the committee states on their website.According to Alfred Nobel’s will, the prize recognizes someone who has "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses". 2334

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Susie Kelly teased her husband Doug as they played a game of rummy at Consulate Health Care, a rehabilitation center in Port Charlotte, Florida. Something they said wouldn’t be able to do if it wasn’t for Home Depot employees giving Susie CPR when she had a massive heart attack.“This is my early Christmas present. I got my wife back,” Doug Kelly said.Susie Kelly had a massive heart attack while riding in the car with her husband last month. He quickly pulled over to a nearby Home Depot.“I immediately thought of the time I had before the brain damage would kick in,” he said. “Those gals at Home Depot played a large part in saving my wife’s life.” 689

President Donald Trump gave his final Thanksgiving address to troops before President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January. After addressing service members, Trump answered questions for the first time since his November 3 election defeat, saying that it would be a “mistake” if the Electoral College votes for Biden next month.“This election was a fraud,” Trump claimed. Two weeks ago, a joint statement released by federal and state officials described the presidential election as the “most secure in American history.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was established two years ago as a branch of Homeland Security during the Trump administration. In bold, the authors of the statement wrote, “There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.” This statement matches those from secretaries of state and boards of election throughout the US.In response to the letter, Trump fired US election security head Chris Krebs.Biden is slated to send 306 electors on his behalf to state capitols on December 4, 36 more than the 270 needed to become president on January 20. Trump has been trying to stop Biden’s electors from casting a vote by whatever means possible. After more than three dozen failed legal challenges since the election, Trump has been meeting with state legislative leaders, most recently on Wednesday with Republican members of the Pennsylvania legislature.“I know one thing, Joe Biden did not get 80 million votes,” Trump claimed, even though the overwhelming majority of his legal team’s lawsuits have been thrown out.Trump again expressed frustration over “dumps” of votes. But legislators in Pennsylvania and Michigan refused to let election officials process mail-in ballots, which overwhelming were in favor of Biden, before Election Day. The result was Trump built up massive leads based off those who voted Election Day, but the overwhelmingly Democratic mail-in votes, which were processed in the days after the election, were enough to tilt the two key states in Biden’s favor.Another state Trump is contesting the results of is Georgia, which elected a Democratic nominee for the first time since Bill Clinton. Trump said he is going to hold a rally in Georgia on Saturday night, but the details of where are still unknown.Trump was asked if he would attend Biden’s inauguration. He said he knew the answer but would not say whether he would or not. It has been a long-standing tradition that the incoming and outgoing president meet at the White House and travel to the Capitol together before the inauguration.Trump said, “certainly I will, you know that,” when asked if he would leave the White House on January 20.The president criticized Biden for beginning to fill out his prospective cabinet before taking office. But Trump as president-elect had named his UN ambassador and secretary of education nominees on the day before Thanksgiving in 2016. Before answering questions on the election, Trump said it has been an “honor” serving as the military’s commander-in-chief."Many of you are very far from home, but today we hope, you know, that millions of American families are praying and gratitude for the sacrifices you make and the incredible, absolutely incredible job you do,” Trump said. “As president. I want to personally express my profound, thanks to each and every one of you for your devoted service to our nation. Our nation is doing very well. It's the highest honor of my life to serve as your commander-in-chief." 3789
