DENVER – What started out with a handful of bold activists seeking to spark a conversation about topless equality five years ago now brings over 1,000 people to the streets of downtown Denver. On Sunday, organizers of GoTopless Day expect to draw just as many people – if not more – to the 16th Street Mall, hoping to again “show that men and women can embrace topless equality while promoting respect and healthy boundaries.”Here’s everything you need to know about GoTopless Day 2018 in downtown Denver, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 26.It’s not just toplessness you’ll see this year Organizers said in the official Facebook event page that there will be live music as well as body painters. If you’re into getting body-painted, you’re asked to arrive early.Organizers did not release a lineup of the artists who will be performing live music at the event. There will also be a group photo opportunity of the attendees with the Colorado State Capitol building in the background, organizers said. Following the group shot, everyone will be asked to return to Skyline Park for more entertainment and for socializing.A worldwide eventGoTopless Day parades are taking place in over 25 cities across the world – from Seoul in South Korea to Valparaiso in Chile, according to the organization’s website. Nearly 20 events are scheduled to take place in the United States alone.“It is only logical that GoTopless Day protests (or celebrations depending on the legal status of your city) would fall on Women's Equality Day since the right to go topless for women is based on gender equality as their right to vote once was,” a press release of the event states.Colorado’s fight for female toplessness While female toplessness is not banned in Denver, cities like Fort Collins are still fighting to end the ban on toplessness after a three-judge panel had shown skepticism earlier this year about the difference between male and female breasts while listening to an appeals court hearing about women’s rights to go topless in that city, according to our partners at The Denver Post. The Denver march, which has been taking place each year around this time since it started back in 2013, saw ten times more people in 2016 than the year prior, according to organizers. In 2017, the event drew over 1,000 participants, according to organizers.  2373

DENVER, Colo. — When a Denver area woman received a voicemail from the Tri-County Health Department letting her know test results were in, she was puzzled because she did not have any recent medical tests. She called back and said an employee for the health department told her that she had tested positive for COVID-19. She replied that she had never been tested."Well, it definitely freaked me out, you know, because ... they had all of my personal information and then this positive test result," said Jessica. We're only using Jessica's first name because she's worried her personal information was compromised.“They knew my phone number, they knew my address, they knew my first and last name, but they had the birthday wrong," she said. She said the health department employee told her the test was administered at a NextCare facility. Jessica said she's been to the NextCare by her house before but it was sometime last year."There was nothing they could tell m — they couldn’t tell me which NextCare it was because that was confidential information and that basically there’s nothing they can do for me and that’s where we’re at now," said Jessica.KMGH reached out to the Tri-County Health Department. A spokesperson said NextCare made a COVID reporting error and said Jessica was never actually tested. He said the health department has done everything on their end to delete her information out of their data systems, however NextCare has not reached out to her despite multiple requests."So, it’s just been a big mess and to be left here where I have no idea what happened, where it was, who it was, if they still have my information — it’s been really hard to get down to the bottom of it," Jessica said. This story was originally published by Liz Gelardi at KMGH. 1781

DENVER, Colo. — Voters in Denver, Colorado, overwhelmingly voted to pass Ballot Measure 2J to lift the cities more than 30 years old ban on pit bulls.Ballot Measure 2J passed with 64.5% voting to lift the ban and 35.5% voting to keep the ban in place.Passing the measure will allow the city to grant a provisional permit to pit bull owners as long as the owner microchips the animal and complies with additional requirements set by Denver Animal Protection.Denver Council member Christopher Herndon led the charge, proposing the idea to lift the pit bull ban in January.Denver City Council voted 7-4 to repeal the ban in February, which would have replaced the law with what could be best described as a “probation” for pit bulls. However, Mayor Hancock vetoed the ordinance just days later, saying in a letter he could not support the legislation because it did not, "fully addresses the very real risk to a severe injury that can result from attacks from these particular dog breeds, especially should they happen to a child."The law banning pit bulls was put in place in 1989 after 20 people had been attacked by pit bulls in the previous five years. One was a 3-year old who died from the attack in 1986. Hancock argued in his letter to the council that less than 20% of all pets in Denver are currently licensed, which "raises significant questions about the effectiveness of this proposed new system."Proponents said breed-specific bans do not work and enforcing the ban has cost the City of Denver more than .8 million.Aurora, Lone Tree, Louisville, and Commerce City still have bans on pit bulls, though Castle Rock repealed their ban in 2018. The Aurora City Council discussed breed restrictions in August but tabled the issue. This story was first reported by Blayke Roznowski at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 1823

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Train traffic in Del Mar was stopped Wednesday, after a cliff collapse near 11th Street. It was a beautiful afternoon for sun and surf until the earth came tumbling down. Del Mar resident, Ingrid Hoffmeister has seen it for years - the cliffs in front of her home, slowly disappearing.“We all know it’s happening, so it’s not a surprise," Hoffmeister said. “It’s getting closer and closer to the path of where you’re walking.”Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, plumes of dust filled the air, as enormous chunks of the Del Mar cliffs came crumbling down onto the beach.
