SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of San Diego's most recognized dive bars has been sold to two local cousins. The Aero Club's property was purchased, along with its neighboring property occupied by the t-shirt company Dyno Brand, for .4 million by cousins Chad Cline and Jason "Rocky" Nichols. The bar, formerly owned by Chinatown Bar & Grill's Bill Lutzius, will largely remain unchanged with its dive bar-style in tact, according to Cline. A sigh of relief to patrons after the possibility of moving the bar was floated last year.RELATED: Exploring San Diego: Aero Club, or 'that' bar by the airport"We had heard that the bar was in jeopardy for the past year, maybe a little bit longer. We figured if he moved it, it would get ruined," Cline said. "We don’t want to change anything, unless something breaks."And the two aren't walking in without experience. Between the pair, they have roles running Midway District's Banzai Bar, Little Italy's Waterfront Bar & Grill, Point Loma's Harbortown Pub and Club Marina, Lakeside's Eastbound Bar & Grill, La Mesa's The Hills, and the Gaslamp's Werewolf. The purchase itself was an easy price tag to swallow for Cline and Nichols. Cline said the two are dive bar fans and Aero Club held a special spot for them as they worked nearby at Waterfront."[Aero Club] was always kind of the spot that we felt was similar to what Waterfront was," Cline said. "We’re dive bar fans. All the spots that we’re associated with are kind of dive bars as well."And, of course, there's the Aero Clubs massive assortment of whiskey at the bar — which isn't going anywhere."I started liking it even more," Cline joked of when Aero Club started collecting hundreds of varieties of whiskey. He added if any changes were to come, the portfolio of whiskeys could expand."That's our goal with the whole thing is to continue it and not ruin it," he said. "‘I think what Aero Club is in not because of me or Rocky but because of Bill and previous owners."Dyno Brand is set to move from the neighboring property on April 1, Cline said. After that, he says they have yet to plan what will happen with the property. 2140

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents say they're disappointed after witnessing what they say was disrespect of the flag and national anthem at a high school basketball game. One parent captured video of the incident at Lincoln High School. They have a student at St. Augustine and say it was the second time they witnessed Lincoln High players sitting down during the anthem. The parent described the players as talking and joking around during it.A grandfather at the game, who is a Vietnam veteran, says he too was offended. He wrote a letter to Lincoln's principal and wants to sit down with him to discuss the issue. The veteran believes the players were disrespectful and says their actions were not in line with the school's mission statement.10News spoke with the school's basketball coach by phone who says he doesn't believe students meant to be disrespectful. He also respects their right to make their own decisions about their actions during the national anthem.  The San Diego Unified School District did not provide 10News comment or a statement on the matter. 1102

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Peeps are traditionally a sign of Spring: brightly colored marshmallow candy that’s front and center on store shelves.Long after Easter, Peeps, made by the Just Born company, appear to stay fresh as ever, seemingly indestructible in their pastel packages. In 2002, 10News put the durability of the everlasting marshmallows to the test. Reporter Herb Cawthorne, photographer Richard Klein and producer Revelle Anderson put Peeps on camera. The inspiration was simple, according to Klein. “We were sitting around talking about the purpose behind the Peep,” Klein said. That led to an elaborate shoot at San Diego locations. The candy was shot, run over, thrown off a five-story tower, and stomped with a crane."During the entire shoot I chewed on a Peep. It never got smaller. I wondered how we ate them as kids,” Cawthorne told 10News in 2018.The 2002 video shows only children eating the Peeps.Adults may want to take notice. Peeps are gluten-free and fat-free.Since their inception Peeps have crossed over into other holidays as well, now available in a variety of shapes for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and the summer season.Peeps were first created in 1953 by laboriously hand-squeezing marshmallow through pastry tubes, according to Just Born. The process was eventually simplified and brought the production time of the treat from 27 hours down to 6 minutes. As far as the company is concerned, they hope their product retains its freshness year-round. Among their "frequently asked questions" on their website, Just Born says "storing unwrapped marshmallow in a warm, dry place generally results in prematurely stale product."The time it takes to destroy the sugary treat, however, remains up to consumers. 1791

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — North Park residents will celebrate this holiday season with an annual tradition intact — at least for one more year. For 56 years, the Toyland Parade has delighted crowds in North Park during the holiday season. But much like a parade balloon, financial troubles have loomed over organizers.Last year, the parade was briefly canceled after former-host Victoria House Corporation said it had lost support from sponsors. Then in March 2019, the community learned that a Victoria House Corporation organizer was accused of fraud and pocketing 2018 parade donations and fees after the cancellation.RELATED:North park donut shop defends homeless manSan Diego deputies share tips to protect your presents10 special holiday events coming to San DiegoNorth Park Main Street (NPMS), a volunteer-based non-profit, pledged ,000 to the parade. That donation and monetary support from the community helped 2018's parade continue as planned. NPMS has since taken the parade over, as well. But the parade is once again in trouble. Angela Landsberg, executive director with North Park Main Street, says support from the local Lions Club has saved 2019's parade, but 2020 is a different story."Our presenting sponsor North Park Lions Club have ensured that it's going to go off this year, but if we don't raise enough money this year to get us carried through our planning for next year, because these things take a long time to plan, then this will be the final year," Landsberg told 10News. The organization is asking for the community to once again step in to make sure the parade steps off on University Avenue next year. Donations are being accepted on the NPMS website here. The Toyland Parade will start at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, rain or shine. 1766
