Being so close, the two planets will appear to be roughly the same size as one-fifth a full moon.According to EarthSky, the December 2020 conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is the closest the two planets have been to each other in the night sky since 1623.However, people back then were not able to see the celestial event, because of its proximity to the sun, according to Amy Oliver, a spokeswoman for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Oliver told The Boston Globe that the last time people would have noticed two planets coming together this closely would have been in 1226, during the Middle Ages, nearly 800 years ago.Scientists say the two planets will appear in the early evening sky for the rest of 2020 and Jupiter will be the brightest object in the western sky for the rest of the year. 1238

On Tuesday night, thousands of fans will fill Ford Field in Detroit to see Taylor Swift perform. In the crowd, will be 15-year-old Tiffany Kleinschmidt of Waterford.The teen, who's a huge T Swift fan, suffered a traumatic brain injury last April after going into cardiac arrest at school. She's been in the hospital for months learning how to walk and talk again, but on Tuesday, she'll leave for the first time since the tragedy. She's also a superfan of Taylor Swift and had purchased tickets.She realized she couldn't go, but didn't want to sell the tickets. She decided to donate them to someone who could really use a night out.So, Laken contacted Children's Hospital of Michigan. (AP) — Authorities arrested a man suspected of shooting the security guard of a news crew that was robbed while covering the Oakland teachers strike, according to a statement by the CBS affiliate.KPIX said a reporter and a photographer were gathering interviews Sunday about the strike at the Oakland Library when a car pulled up and the driver pulled a gun, demanding their camera. The crew surrendered the equipment and began walking away.The suspect then shot the guard, Matt Meredith, in the leg, the news station said. KPIX reporter Joe Vazquez said on Twitter that the guard, a retired Berkeley police officer, exchanged gunfire.An Alameda County Sheriff spokesman says a 21-year-old man with several gunshot wounds walked into a nearby hospital after the incident. Oakland police arrested the man on suspicion of shooting the news crew's guard.The guard's condition wasn't immediately known.Assaults on routine assignments became so common in recent years that some television stations have hired armed guards to ride with news crews.No other information — including what time the robbery took place — was immediately released.It's not the first time the station has been the target of theft. Oceanside (KGTV): The Main Attraction is getting ready for its last dance.The popular topless bar, the last of its kind in the North County, was recently sold. Developers now plan to turn the land it sits on, as well as more than 5 acres around it, into a mixed-use housing project.Papers filed with the City of Oceanside Planning Department show plans for a five story, 308-unit complex that also includes 4,000 square feet of street front retail stores and a six-story parking garage. Wood Partners and Lightfoot Planning Group filed the plans.The land sits just west of the 5 freeway near the intersection of North Coast Highway and Costa Pacifica Way. A vacant lot covers most of the 5.3-acre parcel. A few abandoned warehouses and the strip club stand as the only buildings around."It is exciting," says Leslee Gaul, the CEO of Visit Oceanside. "It’s part of the renaissance in our community, and I think it’s a great location."Gaul's office is right across the street from the topless bar. She works in the California Welcome Center. The Main Attraction is the first thing most visitors see when they get off the freeway in Oceanside.Gaul says the club has been a good neighbor, but she's ready for the change."It’s been a low key, positive relationship for many years," she says. "But as things change and our community changes, this is part of that."Homes within the complex will range from a 550 square foot studio to 1,550 square foot townhomes. The majority of the 308 units will be either one or two-bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, the plans from the developer say residents will have modern amenities, including "an indoor‐outdoor social lounge with pool access and catering kitchen, a fitness center, an artist center, bicycle room, and surfboard storage." There will also be a 5th‐floor deck with an ocean view.Phone calls to the developer, the city and the topless bar weren't returned this week.
