SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man and woman were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after they were hit by a vehicle in Balboa Park Thursday night. A 23-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were in the crosswalk when a 77-year-old driver in an SUV ran through the crosswalk and hit them, San Diego police said.Two pedestrians hit by an SUV in Balboa Park near Spreckles Organ Pavilion. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A North Park gym owner who defied the governor's health order and moved workouts indoors was served with a violation notice from the county, threatening ,000 daily fines. Owner Frank Kole initially complied with last month's order and moved everything outdoors, but after five days made the decision to go back inside. That's because he says the sidewalks outside his gym were littered with feces, blood stains, and trash. Kole instead instituted strict rules indoors, requiring masks and social distancing. But the county, while acknowledging the tough reality outside, still served him with the violation, saying it was the law. "I encourage you to work with the city of San Diego to see what can be done to resolve the difficulties you previously faced." On Friday, however, Kole took everything back outside. Immediately, he and his staff discovered a syringe on the sidewalk as they were setting up equipment. The city of San Diego power washed the sidewalk on Wednesday, but Kole says it was a quick job without trash pickup. "If we weren't out there cleaning that sidewalk up everyday, that needle would still be there," Kole said. A spokeswoman for the city of San Diego says environmental crews will pick up syringes with biohazard boxes when they encounter them. In the meantime, residents can report the on the city's Get-it-done App. Kole says he will comply with the order and keep the gym outside, even if it means reduced hours and more staff time moving everything in and out everyday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A reward was offered Tuesday to find a woman suspected of opening several credit card accounts at stores in Lemon Grove and College Grove with a stolen identity.The crime spree started July 12, according to San Diego County Crime Stoppers. The woman successfully opened accounts at several stores but failed on other attempts.More than ,000 was charged before the accounts were closed.The victim contacted the San Diego Police Department upon learning the accounts were being opened. He or she did not know how the suspect gained access to private information.Investigators say the woman is African-American, blonde, and between 25 and 35 years old.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man is being investigated on suspicion of DUI after driving into a house in San Diego’s Skyline neighborhood early Sunday morning.According to police, the man was driving his 2002 Mercedes Benz on the 6800 block of Madrone Avenue when he drifted off the road, went down an embankment and slammed into a house.The man received serious facial injuries and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.The house had only minor damage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man involved in a DUI hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a young boy in the South Bay started his sentencing hearing Wednesday for violating federal immigration laws.Constantino Banda Acosta, a Mexican national who had previously been deported from the U.S. at least 15 times in the past, has been in federal custody since March over federal criminal re-entry charges.He was transferred to federal custody after charges against him stemming from a 2017 crash were dismissed.Banda faced charges in the May 6, 2017, crash in San Ysidro that sent young Lennox Lake to the hospital with serious injuries, including head trauma.Banda was initially charged with drunk driving and hit-and-run after authorities said he ran a stop sign at Dairy Mart Road and slammed his pickup truck into the Lake family’s car as they were heading home from a Disneyland trip.Banda left the scene but was arrested about two miles away after Border Patrol agents spotted his damaged truck parked on a street, police said.San Diego police Officer Michael Muniz testified in the first trial that Banda's blood-alcohol content measured .151 and .152.Following a mistrial, a judge dismissed the case against Banda in March, saying there was no clear evidence that showed he was behind the wheel at the time of the crash.Banda’s lawyers had argued that another man in the truck, Jorge Adame Ariza, may have been driving the truck after a night of drinking with Banda.Adame said Banda got into a fight with another man outside a Chula Vista restaurant before the crash.
