If you're a pet owner, you know your furry friend can be expensive, especially when it comes to their medical bills. Last year, Americans spent billion at the vet. That's why more owners are now opting for pet insurance. But, is it worth it?"When you are presented with a ,000 bill for emergency surgery, you might only have to pay a couple hundred dollars," says Dr. Jessica Weeks, with BluePearl Veterinary Partner.   Routine care for a dog can be on average 7, and for cats, it’s around 2, according to the American Pet Product Association.  "Most people aren't prepared financially for those things that happen unexpectedly," says Dr. Weeks.Last year, there were 1.83 million pets insured, and experts say that number is climbing.   There are a few caveats with pet insurance, Dr. Weeks says. A majority of the plans do not cover shots and checkups. They only cover the big medical expenses, like treatments and surgery. Additionally, many plans will make you pay the bill in full and then they'll reimburse you after.   "There are similarities as far as pre-existing conditions,” says Dr. Weeks. “If your pet already has an illness and you try to get insurance, a lot of times insurance won't cover that."  That's why vets recommend you do your research. Dr. Weeks recommends owners with young pets get insurance.  As far as the best pet insurance goes, Consumer Watchdog’s top three picks include: Healthy Paws, Pet Plan and Embrace Pet Insurance.   "To be honest, when I have owners come in who have pet insurance, it's a huge relief on my part,” says Dr. Weeks. “So, I can offer standards of care of medicine and do the best that we can for those patients."  1756

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Matt Henry, a father of six and avid surfer, says he's always had a positive attitude."It's partly just who I am," he says. "Before getting sick, I was so happy. I mean, if I were a puppy, I'd be wagging my tail all day long."The sickness he's referring to is an inoperable brain tumor, diagnosed four years ago. It affected his mood and personality. But it never affected his spirit."I think I had an attitude of like, this isn't gonna stop me," Henry says. "I've got six kids and a whole life to live. This is not enough to stop me."After surgery to remove part of the tumor, Henry learned to manage his symptoms. Doctors told him his tumor was growing slowly, giving him time. He decided to use that time to live his best life."I called it bucket list living," he says, and he shared his adventures with his family on his YouTube page. He also uses the hashtags #StayStoked and #InoperableMeetsUnstoppable on social media.Now he's sharing something new. Henry is part of a worldwide clinical trial for a new drug called Vorasinedib. A form of it has FDA Approval for treatment of some conditions of Leukemia.The study will see if a different version can help slow brain tumors' growth with a specific type of mutation, which Henry's has."If this trial works and then it's gonna help a lot of people, so I'd love to pave the way," he says.UC San Diego's Moores Cancer Center is one of the clinics taking part in the trial. Director of Neuro-Oncology Dr. David Piccioni says this new drug can be a way to delay harsher forms of treatment like chemotherapy or radiation."The idea behind the trial was trying to come up with something that might sort of kick the can down the road," says Dr. Piccioni. "It's a slow-growing tumor. But it is growing, and it is something (Matt) wants to do something about. And that's sort of the point of this trial."As he's going through the trial, Henry is posting videos about it. He peppers them with his sense of humor and hope. It's his way of showing that if he can keep a positive attitude through this, the rest of us can persevere through our challenges as well."I'm terminal. But the truth is, we're all terminal. I mean, life is a terminal disease. Human remains were found in several bags along the beach in Seattle. Police responded to a call last week of a suspicious bag on a beach on the west side of Seattle. Another bag was still in the water, according to a statement from Seattle police.The remains are with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as they work to identify them and a possible cause of death.A person who lives near the beach told a local station they were shocked by the terrible news, “but some of these things have happened before around here. IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — The man whose body was discovered floating off-shore in the South Bay this week has been identified.Zabiullah Rahmani, 29, was found after he entered the water near an Imperial Beach lifeguard tower during the early morning hours of Aug. 4. Officials said Rahmani was at the beach with a friend when he entered the water. The friend lost sight of him and a short time later, his body was found by joggers in the 700 block of Seacoast Drive.Paramedics pronounced Rahmani dead at the scene.At the time of discovery, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said drugs or alcohol may have played a role in Rahmani's death, but the Medical Examiner report didn't immediately offer a cause of death. 728
