GORMAN, Calif. (KGTV) - Interstate 5 over the Grapevine reopened Thursday afternoon after an hours-long closure due to snow, ice, and multiple collisions. California Highway Patrol officials said the crashes involved semi-trucks and other stuck vehicles on north I-5 just north of Gorman School Road. There were no immediate reports of injuries.CHP officers also escorted traffic over Highway 58.At 9:27 a.m., the National Weather Service reported snow in the higher elevations of the I-5 pass through the Grapevine. GRANTVILLE, CA (KGTV) - A temporary relocation is becoming permanent for one Navy sailor.A driver backed into a hydrant in February causing flooding to 10 units at the Mission Heights Condominiums in Grantville.Cody Downs was among the affected and hoping to move back in after his apartment was repaired, all while others affected moved out.The active duty sailor says he was told by the management association in February that he could likely move back in by March. “It was just missed deadline after missed deadline,” said Downs.On Tuesday, Downs signed his 30-day clearance notice after the owner he was renting from told him they were selling the unit because of mounting delays from the management association and contractor.“I was intending on living here for the foreseeable future,” said Downs, “to have that taken away from me without any regard or any doing is just devastating.”The management company for the building First Service Residential could not provide a comment but said over the phone that repairing the affected apartments was ’98% resolved.’Downs is searching for a new place now, but he just wishes he didn’t take them for their word. "There was no verification process and I just kept giving trust and trust and maybe in a way I was the betrayed fool,” said Downs, “at the end of the day I lost my home.”  1375

GREENCASTLE, Indiana — Protesters at DePauw University in Indiana interrupted a press conference meant to discuss recent racist writings on and near campus, one day after students demonstrated at an on-campus event led by actress Jenna Fischer. After five incidents of racial slurs were written across campus in the last two weeks, protesters interrupted actress Jenna Fischer's talk Tuesday night. On Wednesday, university officials held a press conference to discuss the incidents and Tuesday's protest. About 10 minutes into the press conference Wednesday, DePauw President Mark McCoy learned about protesters outside the doors, wanting inside. McCoy and the other officials allowed the protesters inside, where they chanted, "Meet our demands. We are not safe." For about 20 more minutes, McCoy and the group discussed the incidents, and what the university is doing to stop future incidents from happening. "We are all together addressing every issue that has happened on this campus," McCoy said. "We are committed to addressing these issues. Greg Eubanks disappeared over the weekend, leaving his family frantic. Two days later, he was at home, safe.The 41-year-old had crashed his SUV around 3 a.m. Saturday in Oxon Hill, Maryland. The SUV went down an embankment and got stuck between the highway entrance and exit ramps, so his car wasn't visible from the road.Eubanks was hurt when he was thrown from the SUV. He was left laying at the bottom of the ravine with broken bones and a dead cell phone for two days and three nights. "He said he didn't think he was gonna make it," Tre Drew, Eubanks' cousin, said. "He heard several fire trucks passing, ambulance passing. He kept saying 'I know they're coming for me' and no one came for him."Eubanks' son, Greg Eubanks Jr., reported him missing Saturday, then drove around searching for his dad. "I was worried. I couldn't sleep. (I) rode around all day yesterday trying to find his car, just looking for any type of piece of evidence," the younger Eubanks said.A highway crew finally spotted Eubanks and his car while repairing a damaged guardrail on the Indian Head Highway. "He said it was the worst thing he's ever been through, and he has been through a lot," Drew said.Eubanks was taken to the hospital for treatment. His family says he is in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery.
