(KGTV) - National City Treasurer Mitchel Beauchamp is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty Tuesday, including unlawfully trapping skunks and opossums.Court records obtained by 10News indicate the San Diego County District Attorney’s office believes Beauchamp maliciously and intentionally maimed, mutilated, tortured, wounded and killed an animal.Beauchamp told 10News he had a pest problem. He invited our crew into his yard to show us the humane trap he had been using. He also showed the crew where animals were moving from the canyon into his yard.According to County Animal Services, residents are allowed to relocate skunks and possums within a mile from their homes using a humane trap. Experts say the best way to keep pests out of your yard is to keep the area clean and don’t set out food. MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — With coronavirus cases still surging in the United States, Google has reportedly pushed back the timeline for when its employees will return to their offices.The New York Times and NBC News both report Google is planning to return to in-person working in September 2021, instead of July.That’s according memo sent to staff Sunday, which also said the company would be testing the idea of a “flexible work week” once workers do return to offices.Under the pilot plan, The Times says employees would be asked to work at least three days in their offices for “collaboration days,” and work the other days at home.The CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, wrote in the memo that they want to test the hypothesis that flexible work models lead to greater productivity, collaboration, and well-being.Google isn’t alone in testing these kinds of work schedules. Other tech companies like Microsoft, Facebook, and Twitter have expressed interest or released plans for rolling out similar models.Another aspect of getting people back to work will be COVID-19 vaccines. The 6,589 gift will fund research on ways to use mesh-based devices to collect water circulating in fog, according to CSUMB. The DoD is interested in the study to collect usable water for drinking or irrigation, which may be useful for military personnel in remote foggy regions. "The presence of fog affects visibility and can impact Army operations,” Julia Barzyk, the program manager for Earth Materials and Processes at the Army Research Office told CSUMB. “We are excited that this award will enable the science needed to mitigate those effects as well as provide opportunities to develop the next generation of scientists." College of Science Professor Dan Fernandez, who has a doctorate in electrical engineering, plans to buy two FM-120 Fog Detectors for his research. Milwaukee is seeing an unexpected spike in cases of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, according to health officials.There are high incidence rates in communities with larger vulnerable populations, including men who have sex with men, ethnic minorities, injection drug users and women, especially those who have been trafficked or who work in the sex trade, city Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia McManus said this week.Three Milwaukee children born with syphilis were identified in 2017, McManus said. "It rarely occurs," she said, and "the last known single case was in 2012." This "sentinel event" -- an unexpected and dramatic occurrence -- is a cause for concern, she said.Syphilis is the most serious bacterial STD. Left untreated, it can affect the brain, heart and other organs, ultimately leading to death.Angela Hagy, director of Disease Control and Environmental Health for the City of Milwaukee Health Department, reported the preliminary number of new diagnoses of sexually transmitted disease in 2017 for the Wisconsin city: 117 cases of HIV, 53 cases of syphilis, 4,401 cases of gonorrhea and 9,725 cases of chlamydia.The numbers represent a 13% increase in new cases of HIV compared with 2016, a 29% increase in syphilis, a 12% increase in gonorrhea and a 0.5% increase in chlamydia, according to Clarene Mitchell, a spokeswoman for the department of health.Gonorrhea and chlamydia are both bacterial infections. Gonorrhea can cause severe and permanent health problems, including long-term pain and infertility, and chlamydia can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, which can affect fertility in women and cause testicular pain and swelling in men.For 2016, the Milwaukee metropolitan statistical area was already ranked first in the nation for gonorrhea and fourth for chlamydia, she said.The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is not involved in the Milwaukee investigation, reported the highest-ever number of sexually transmitted diseases in America in September in its annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report.Americans were infected with more than 2 million new cases of gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia in 2016, the most recent data available, the CDC reported.Syphilis has been out of the spotlight for decades, and many physicians don't have it on their radar, according to the CDC.
