ZAGREB, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in the Croatian capital of Zagreb Friday for a state visit to strengthen the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two nations.     This is the first visit to Croatia by a Chinese head of state since the two countries established diplomatic ties 17 years ago.     In Zagreb, President Hu is expected to meet Croatian leaders to discuss how to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange views on major regional and global issues of common concern.     The two countries are expected to sign a host of cooperation deals involving various sectors during the visit.     "I believe that President Hu's visit to Croatia will have great impact on consolidating traditional friendship between China and Croatia and deepening all-round and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries," said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui last week. BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met with visiting chairman of the U.S. Economic Recovery Advisory Board Paul Volcker here Wednesday when they saw eye-to-eye on stepping up dialogue and cooperation.     During the meeting, they agreed to make concerted efforts to develop the Sino-American "positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship for the 21st century", which Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama agreed to build during their meeting in London in April. WASHINGTON, April 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed concerns about the development of Taliban militants in Pakistan on Wednesday, calling for effective efforts to curb the insurgents advance in the war-torn country.     Speaking to the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, Clinton said that the U.S. government believes Pakistani government shares U.S. goals in defeating terrorism.     However, she criticized Pakistani authorities for having made a peace deal that allows militants in Pakistan's northwest to impose Islamic law in exchange for a cease-fire with Taliban insurgents.
