Paradise Point Resort & Spa on Vacation Isle Park in Mission Bay is rebranding into a Margaritaville Island Beach Resort, with an anticipated opening of 2020-21.The existing property will be renovated and converted for an estimated million. It will feature 462 casita-style single-story guest rooms, waterfront views with a mile of beachfront, Margaritaville food and beverage concepts, new recreational activities and family-friendly amenities.Margaritaville is a global lifestyle brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett, whose songs evoke a passion for tropical escape and relaxation.Davidson Hotels & Resorts will operate the property as Paradise Point Resort & Spa until the hotel is reflagged, and will continue to manage the property following the completion of the renovation and rebranding.Paradise Point's general manager, Michael Stephens tells 10News, "Some of the first things were investing in is restaurants." Following last years 22 million dollar guest room renovation, the new project will focus on updating the rest of the property and adding new restaurants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University said Tuesday it plans to pause a majority of in-person instruction for the fall term.The university noted that the changes will begin the week of Thanksgiving.“Faculty offering in-person courses are encouraged to shift to virtual, preferably by Friday, Nov. 20. All faculty should convert to virtual instruction no later than Wednesday, Nov. 25,” the university said.The university also said that no in-person research by freshman, sophomores, or volunteers will be allowed for the remainder of the fall semester.The changes come as San Diego County enters the state’s purple tier. Also this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that a majority of the state's counties would enter the purple tier, suffocating economic activity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education approved million in safety upgrades this week.The upgrades will be expedited for installation as well, and include things like security cameras, fencing, locks and gates, and notification systems."We proposed several significant changes that were adopted by the Board of Education at its meeting this week. These changes include fast-tracking several security upgrades at school sites. They also include a move to an 'options-based' model of handling actual threats," a letter to parents from Superintendent Cindy Marten said.RELATED: DA: Nine minors charged in recent threats to local schools"We were impressed this week with the determination our students showed in refusing to allow mass school violence to become accepted as the 'new normal.' So far, nine juveniles have been criminally charged in the cases.Marten said in the letter that parents have been reaching out since the Florida tragedy to offer suggestions to safety procedures at the district's schools.The district also focuses on improving school climates for students venerable from becoming disconnected from their peers, according to Marten. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego students have a new way to report claims of physical or sexual abuse in school.Thursday, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the creation of a new, online reporting system for suspected abuse. She also announced the creation of the Student Safety in School Systems Task Force."It's critically important that these reports don't fall through the cracks," Stephan says. They fear the claims won't be taken seriously, or the allegations could be covered up. The new online system gives the students a more secure feeling that their claims will be investigated.The task force will vet and review every submission and follow up with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will also guide the person facing the suspected abuse to find resources and other available services for help.This will not replace the responsibility of mandated reporters within schools, Stephan says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sharp Healthcare Tuesday announced the temporary closure of multiple locations amid the coronavirus pandemic. Sharp said Tuesday that it was temporarily closing its La Mesa West and Point Loma locations beginning Thursday, March 26.
