SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three Scripps Health locations will temporarily close this week to give the system more staffing flexibility amid the coronavirus pandemic.Scripps Clinic Coronado, Scripps Clinic Santee, and Scripps Clinic Bariatric and General Surgery in Hillcrest will close in order to give the medical system "the ability to move people and resources to where they are needed more.”Scripps will redirect patients from those sites to other locations.RELATED: Sharp temporarily closing multiple locations amid coronavirus outbreak“The coronavirus pandemic has triggered many changes in our lives and forced organizations of all types to alter the way they provide services to their customers,” said Chris Van Gorder, Scripps president and CEO. “These latest changes at Scripps give us more flexibility in how we staff all of our clinics and hospitals as this health pandemic continues to unfold, and they give us the ability to move people and resources to where they are needed more.”The health system said patients can also use Scripps' telemedicine video service instead of scheduling an in-person consultation.RELATED: Nurse urges people to turn over N95 masks to San Diego hospitalsOther Scripps outpatient sites were also being reviewed for possible changes in operation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The restrictions due to the pandemic are exposing us to another threat.Between restaurants and gyms being outside and SDG&E urging energy conservation during the heat wave with all of us at home, we're more exposed to the heat and the potential dangers that come with it.Nurse Practitioner Samantha Gambles Farr works in the ICU for UC San Diego Health and said she's seen a handful of cases in the last month, which is more than normal.Each year, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says an average of 658 people die from extreme heat in the U.S.Gambles Farr said it's important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, "when you have heat exhaustion, your skin will be cold, clammy and you'll be sweaty. When you bridge over to heat stroke you'll have no sweating, you'll be red, and your body temperature will be over 103 degrees."Other symptoms for heat exhaustion include:? Muscle cramping ? Fatigue ? Headache ? Nausea or vomiting ? Dizziness or faintingSymptoms for heat stroke:? A body temperature greater than 103°F (39.4°C) ? Red, hot, and dry skin (no sweating) ? Rapid, strong pulse ? She said the situation becomes most dangerous when someone who is intoxicated passes out in the heat.If you see someone suffering from heat stroke, call 911. Sheriff Bill Gore said in a statement that " I am stopping the use of the carotid restraint by my deputies effective immediately.""I have and always will listen to any feedback about the public safety services we provide. Working together, we can ensure San Diego remains the safety urban county in the nation," he added. San Diego Police Chief Nisleit said during a news conference that he would direct officers in a memo Tuesday to end the use of the carotid restraint procedure following a weekend of nationwide protests against police violence.“It’s the right thing to do for the community and it’s the right thing to do for our officers," Chief Nisleit said. “Some will say it’s taking away a tool, I say it’s adding a layer of protection."The announcement comes as thousands of people throughout San Diego County took to the street to protest the death of George Floyd. The FBI also shared a PDF with more images in an effort to dig up information.
