President Donald Trump publicly attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci — his administration's top expert on infectious diseases — just days after Fauci criticized the president's campaign taking a March interview of his "out of context" and using it in a campaign ad."Actually, Tony's pitching arm is far more accurate than his prognostications," Trump tweeted Monday, referencing Fauci's errant first pitch at a Washington Nationals game earlier this year.Trump's message came in a quote tweet of a Sunday CNN article in which Fauci confirmed a recent Trump campaign and took him "out of context."The ad, which touts Trump's efforts in fighting COVID-19, features a quote from Fauci during an interview on Fox News. 712

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Bundled up and armed with long lenses, an intimate crowd of naturalists, rehabbers and bird enthusiasts gathered in Virginia on Election Day, ready for a glimpse at America's national symbol."It has been the national symbol since the 1780s, but it hasn't always been treated with much respect," said Ed Clark, President of The Wildlife Center of Virginia. The eagle, which made his way to the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve in Portsmouth Tuesday, is a solid 8 pounds, has a 6-foot wing span and is being labeled majestic and mysterious."They really are the flagship species of the natural world and we almost lost them," said Clark. This regal eagle found himself in a scuffle in Suffolk in August with another bird, but was thankfully rescued by a private citizen."Fights are pretty benign but this one banged up and he had soft tissue injuries," Clark said. The beautiful bald eagle has been undergoing treatment at the Wildlife Center of Virginia for the past two months."We are delighted to return him to the area in which he came from and give him another chance," said Clark.Clark says bald eagles are no longer on the endangered species list, and went on to note that there are more than 2,000 pairs in the commonwealth and more than 1,500 nests in the Tidewater region."The bald eagle is one of the greatest conservation success stories we have in North America," he said. The icon is a symbol of courage, strength and freedom, taking the popular vote with eager onlookers."Alright everybody, one, two, three," shouted Clark before launching the bird over Lake Ballard."To be able to send him back to wild lets us be comforted no matter how divided we are as a people or polarized, we are all American's, " said Clark. This story was originally published by Chelsea Donovan at WKTR. 1812

Postal workers in Maine reassembled a high-speed mail sorting machine that had been taken offline over the summer amid USPS policy changes instituted by the new postmaster general.According to WMTM-TV in Poland Spring, Maine and The Associated Press, workers at the Southern Maine Mail Processing Center in Scarborough reassembled one of the two mail sorting machines that had been decommissioned in the summer. The machine resumed sorting mail on Thursday. According to WMTM, the American Postal Workers Union pushed managers at the sorting plant to bring the machine back online. The other machine that had been disassembled this summer had been sold for scrap metal. After he was appointed to take over as head of the USPS in June, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a longtime Republican donor and supporter of President Donald Trump, ordered several policy changes that he claimed would make the mail run more efficiently. However, mail workers claimed the changes significantly slowed delivery, even for first-class mail.DeJoy later said the USPS would hold off on instituting the changes until after election day but said the agency would not be bringing back sorting machines that had already been taken offline. 1222

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Officials say protesters in Portland, Oregon repeatedly set fire to a police union headquarters building and were repelled by officers spraying tear gas.A total of 25 people were arrested amid the clashes that lasted into Tuesday morning. Many were charged with interfering with a peace officer and/or disorderly conduct. Police say in a statement that the protesters in a group of about 300 people hurled rocks and bottles at officers and set three fires to the sides of the Portland Police Association Building and one to an awning. All fires were put out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.Among other things, police say the crowd chanted "burn it down." Many in the crowd reportedly carried shields, wore helmets, gas masks, and body armor. After giving numerous warnings to the protesters, police say they deployed tear gas and used other crowd control munitions to take control of the situation and arrest those who failed to listen to officers.Portland has been gripped by nightly protests for months since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. 1102
