BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin attended a symposium here on Wednesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the uprising of two air carriers in Hong Kong in 1949.     On Nov. 9, 1949, a total of 12 aircraft from the carriers flew from Hong Kong to Beijing and Tianjin on the Chinese mainland during the uprising, a move embraced by the New China. Mao Zedong called it "a very patriotic action of great significance."     Du Qinglin, head of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the precious spirit of the uprising should be inherited and promoted, to encourage all the Chinese to make unswerving contributions to the rejuvenation of the nation.

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's exchange rate regulator said Tuesday it would work to promote balance of payment next year by stabilizing exports while expanding imports.     The promotion of balance of payment should be the fundamental of the work in 2010 in order to safeguard the nation's economic and financial security, said Yi Gang, head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).     He said SAFE would continue to diversify the investment of foreign reserves, and ensure the safety, liquidity and the value of the mounting assets, which have ballooned to more than 2 trillion U.S. dollars.     The authority would also step up supervision of the cross-border money flow to protect national financial safety, he said.     Yi also noted SAFE would seek chances to push forward reforms in key areas and links of the foreign exchange management but didn't elaborate.

LIMA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived in Lima on Sunday, kicking off his official good-will visit to this South American country.     Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, delivered a written speech upon his arrival at the airport of the Peruvian capital. In the speech, Jia hailed the traditional friendship and sound development of bilateral ties, highlighting the fruitful cooperation in various fields and close coordination on international and regional affairs since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1971.     The China-Peru relations entered a new phase of development when the two states established a strategic partnership in 2008, Jia said. BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the upcoming China-EU summit will promote strategic mutual trust, said Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun on Tuesday.     Zhang said, the summit to be held on Nov. 30 in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing is the highest level of dialogue mechanism between the two sides, and it has a unique and leading role in the development of China-EU relations.     At the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jos Manuel Barroso, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, and EU High Representative Javier Solana will attend the summit. Both sides will exchange views on bilateral relations, global financial crisis and climate change.     Zhang said China hopes the summit will actively enhance strategic mutual trust and both sides will be more determined to support each other's choice of path of development.     China also hopes the two sides will make a general blueprint for the dialogue and cooperation in various fields and show the world their cooperation on global issues including trade protectionism and climate change, Zhang added.     China and EU have common or similar views on major international issues such as upholding multilateralism and promoting world peace and stability. They enjoy a sound basis of cooperation on promoting reform of international financial system and coping with climate change, Zhang said.     According to the Foreign Ministry, Chinese and EU leaders will attend the signing ceremonies of a series of agreements on science and technology, economic and trade, environment protection and industry, and hold a press conference after the summit.     The upcoming 12th China-EU summit is the second of its kind in 2009 as the first one was held in May, and it is also the third time for the leaders to meet in 2009 since Wen visited Europe at the beginning of this year.

COPENHAGEN, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China has all along actively pushed forward international negotiations on climate change, and made its own contribution in energy saving and emissions cut, said a senior Chinese official on Sunday.     China, with its continuous development and increasing influence, is playing an ever bigger role in climate change negotiations, Xie Zhenhua, vice minister in charge of China's National Development and Reform Commission, told Xinhua.     Xie is in Copenhagen to attend the UN Climate Change Conference, which is slated for Dec. 7 to 18.     "As a responsible country, China takes a serious attitude toward combating climate change. It has always wielded positive and constructive influence on climate change negotiations, and wishes this latest conference a success," said Xie.     He said China's most important measure to boost this conference was its recent announcement of the target to reduce its carbon intensity for per unit of GDP by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2020 against the 2005 level.     He said China has set up a series of energy conservation and emissions reduction targets, and has taken many measures to ensure their implementation.     China would continue to raise energy efficiency, develop nuclear power and renewable energy, plant trees, adopt energy-saving measures in construction and transportation, and develop low-carbon economy, he said.     Developed countries, which shoulder historical responsibilities for climate change due to their emissions, have accomplished their industrialization, while China is still in the process of industrialization, noted Xie.     China, as a developing country, voluntarily put on table its emissions cut target by 2020, although the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change does not demand any numerical limitations from developing countries.     China, on its road to industrialization, will not send off greenhouse gases without restriction, Xie said, adding that China will never repeat developed countries' old paths of high energy consumption and unlimited emissions.     He said China holds the view that its efforts in saving energy, cutting emissions and boosting international climate change negotiations represent a responsible attitude to mankind and the country itself.
