SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Bystanders captured video of a truck involved in a crash near San Diego International Airport on Saturday speeding away from the scene.The video begins moments after a three-car crash on N. Harbor Drive at Lee Court around 9:30 a.m. A white truck reportedly slammed into the back of a Ford F-350 and sideswiped a sedan, according to the driver of the sedan, Kathleen Gleason. The driver of the white truck is then seen speeding away, creating a cloud of white smoke, with the driver-side front tire bent sideways. The driver first heads eastbound before turning around at McCain Road and heading westbound. A police vehicle is seen seconds later turning around and pursuing the truck.Gleason, a Lyft driver who was struck by the truck, told ABC 10News the suspect was determined to get out of the area quickly. She said she was in the middle of dropping off a passenger to the airport when she was struck. Thankfully, Good Samaritans gave the passenger a lift the rest of the way, she said.Gleason said police caught up with the driver and arrested the person. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- At least nine parked vehicles has their windows smashed with a bat in Oak Park early Monday morning. The vandalism happened on the 5600 block of Redwood Street around 1 a.m. Car windows along Redwood Street and Thorn Street were smashed. A witness told 10News he was returning home when he noticed shattered pieces of glass on the ground and spotted two suspects trying to get away in a white car with no license plates. The man says he followed the suspects down Thorn Street before they got away. Police are searching for the suspects and say nothing appears to have been stolen from the vehicles. 628

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Clothing retailer Forever 21 announced Tuesday it may close three stores in San Diego County as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring. The affected locations, which include Fashion Valley, University Towne Center, and Parkway Plaza in El Cajon, could be shut down "pending the outcome of continued conversations with landlords,” according to court documents. Attorneys also said the list of store closures could change pending restructuring efforts.Forever 21 has 800 stores worldwide and plans to close almost 200. "We do however expect a significant number of these stores will remain open and operate as usual, and we do not expect to exit any major markets in the US," the company said. The chain was founded in 1984 in a small Los Angeles store by South Korean immigrants Do Won Chang and his wife, Jin Sook. The chain expanded quickly in suburban malls, and catering to young girls and women with a mix of inexpensive basics. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Anyone touched by Alzheimer's knows how painful the disease is. "It's affected my family. It's affected most families. It's such a prevalent disease. As people get older, it becomes quite likely this will become an issue," said Paul Aisen, director of USC's Alzheimer's Therapeutic Research Clinic (ACTC).Aisen's team began their research in San Diego many years ago and teamed up with USC about four years ago. He's spent over 30 years trying to solve Alzheimer's mysteries and is leading the upcoming clinical trial.Aisen says the large-scale study is the culmination of decades of work from scientists worldwide."Our focus lately has been trying to alter the disease, prevent it, or significantly slow its progression. How should we do that? We think attacking amyloid early is the most promising approach," said Aisen. Researchers believe sticky amyloid deposits, which form on the brain later in life, start the Alzheimer's process. Aging, genetics, and lifestyle factors can all contribute to amyloid build-up.The worldwide clinical trial aims to target amyloid. A drug called BAN2401 will be delivered intravenously, designed to bind to the sticky amyloid. The binding neutralizes beta amyloid and helps "tag" it, so the immune system can recognize it and clear it from the brain. A previous phase 2 study showed that BAN2401 removes brain amyloid and possibly slows cognitive decline.They're seeking participants over 50 who are not yet showing symptoms of Alzheimer's but do have elevated amounts of amyloid on their brain. Researchers can determine that through a PET scan or spinal tap. "We think that the most promising approach of all is to take a vigorous attack on amyloid while the brain is still functioning normally. And we can see amyloid in people many years before they develop the symptoms of Alzheimer's."Investigators hope that by treating a patient with BAN2401 very early in the disease, before symptoms occur, it will significantly slow disease progression. "If we're successful, it will have a huge impact on human health," said Aisen. There will be 100 sites worldwide for the study, including major cities like San Diego and Los Angeles. Study participants will receive treatment for four years, given either the drug or a placebo. Results are expected in seven years, Aisen says.
