TAMPA, Fla. — Within one month, someone splashed four cars with an acid-like liquid in busy Tampa parking lots.Deputies are not sure if the incidents are related. The most recent happened in a shared parking lot near the AMC Veterans movie theater and Starbucks off Anderson Road.The scenario is the same in all of these situations. Some sort of corrosive liquid is poured onto the doors of the cars which damages paint, metal and plastic on the car.Two panels on Gary Schaff’s 2015 white Mercedes had to be repainted. He was parked in the lot off Anderson Road two nights in a row as he and his family caught up on the latest Marvel movies at AMC."When we came out to the car which was a little bit of a walk away from the theater, it looked as if there was almost shaving cream or foam on the side of the car,” Schaff said. "We're like, what is that?”As his family got closer, they realized the white paint had bubbled up. By the time they got home a lot of it had flaked off and exposed the metal underneath. "I don't even know what I would say to someone who thinks it’s a good idea to do something like that,” Schaff said. "What does it accomplish exactly?"Hillsborough County deputies say a 2007 BMW was vandalized the same way in a Publix parking lot off N. Dale Mabry on April 11 and a 2017 Porsche SUV was damaged by a corrosive liquid in the Heath Integrated parking lot on April 23. All three attacked occurred within a few miles of each other. The Tampa Police Department responded to a 2011 Audi with similar damage at International Mall on April 15."It's just to me a completely random thing, and it's really hard to prevent,” Schaff said. "Have insurance on your car."While Schaff must pay a 0 deductible, his insurance company will cover the rest of the amount needed to repair the damage.He asked the movie theater about security cameras but believe the ones on the building catch the area of the parking lot his car was in."I hope the person gets caught, and brought to whatever justice there would be from this and learns a lesson not to do this,” said Schaff.Scripps station WFTS in Tampa reached out to the property owners of this parking lot to see what type of security they have and is waiting to get an official response. 2387

Students have powered on as best they can during the pandemic. Handling remote learning and adjusted teaching methods. Now, some schools are partnering with local industry leaders to help make some classes more hands-on, even while taking classes from home."We have several auto-shop classes. Auto shop is completely hands-on, right? Kids need to be in the grease, they need to be on the tools. And so, it's been very difficult. So we've actually had some teachers that actually put together tool kits and checked them out to students where they can tinker with things at home," said Dr. Jamon Peariso, the Director of College and Career Readiness at Visalia Unified School District.Dr. Peariso says continuing career technical education, also known as CTE, at school has been difficult during remote learning. Danny Corwin, with Harbor Freight Tools, says they're here to help with their Tools for Schools program."We wanted to come up with creative ideas to help both the teachers and the students and the parents trying to support their kids. Fortunately, we have a group of incredibly inventive and genius teachers and we wanted to provide them with the tools and other supports to allow them to do what they do best," said Corwin.Bob Kilmer, an Educational Consultant for Harbor Freight Tools, said in an auto shop tool kit kids would receive "everything from code readers to socket sets to hand wrenches to bolt readers. So, they can continue to do a variety of hands-on projects related to a car and things you could do with a car."After teaching skilled trades classes at the high school level for 35 years, Bob Kilmer is now an Educational Consultant for Harbor Freight Tools. Harbor Freight's foundation has handed out more than 3,600 tool kits to teachers all across the country."The great part about the project was that those 53 teachers in those 12 states got a choice of what they could put in the kit for their particular discipline and the automotive kit is different than the welding kit, which is different than the construction and architecture kit, which is different than the robotics kit or the mega-tronics kit," said Kilmer.For school districts like Visalia Unified, the kits couldn't have come at a better time."There's a lot of companies like that that are coming out with more interactive-type educational tools that do a pretty good job considering the kids are locked in their room or house doing the course. That’s something I’m excited about and we’re utilizing that as much as possible in their pathways," said Dr. Peariso.For companies like Harbor Freight Tools, these tools are crucial for engaging students in an industry that needs them. Corwin says one in every three skilled trade workers across the country will be retiring within the next ten years. And they don't want the COVID-19 pandemic to slow down efforts to build up a new workforce for the industry."We've got to address the pipeline and we've got to ensure young people are exposed to the trades in high school and have a pathway to continue the work that they love, that they’re good at. And be able to contribute to our economy in the future," said Corwin.Corwin says many skilled trade jobs have been essential during the pandemic and it's exciting to still see students engaging in hands-on work even if they're doing it from home. 3344

TEMECULA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The United States Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 struck near Temecula. According to the USGS, the quake hit around 6:24 p.m. roughly 20 miles east of Temecula. A 3.0 magnitude aftershock hit the same area at 6:53 p.m. Residents of the town reported feeling the quake. According to the USGS "did you feel it" map, residents all over San Diego and Orange Counties felt the earthquake. Area businesses reported feeling shaking. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett served for nearly three years on the board of private Christian schools that effectively barred admission to children of same-sex parents and made it plain that openly gay and lesbian teachers weren't welcome in the classroom.The policies that discriminated against LGBTQ people and their children were in place for years at Trinity Schools Inc., which has schools in Indiana, Minnesota and Virginia.The schools are affiliated with the insular community People of Praise that has its roots in its own interpretation of the Bible. SUPERIOR, ARIZONA — The mother of two young children is facing murder charges after the kids were found dead in a vehicle Monday night.The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said detectives were called to the home near Richard Avenue and Palo Verde Drive around 11:15 p.m. after a 10-month-old and a 2-year-old were found dead in a car outside. Both children were found strapped in their car seats when officials arrived. Sheriff's spokeswoman Navideh Forghani said evidence at the scene indicated foul play.The mother of the two children, 20-year-old Brittany Velasquez, is facing two counts of murder. An autopsy is being conducted, according to Forghani. 675
