VISTA (CNS) - A man has been detained in connection with the death of a woman at a home in Vista, a sheriff's lieutenant said today.Deputies dispatched at 5:55 p.m. Saturday to a home at 475 1/2 Rancho Vista Road, in response to a reported shooting, found a woman suffering from severe injuries, said Lt. Michael Blevins of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m. Saturday, he said.The sheriff's Homicide Unit asked anyone with any information regarding the incident to call them at (858) 285-6330. 600

(KGTV) - A 10-year San Diego Sheriff's Department employee has been arrested for groping a 14-year-old girl at a North County restaurant this year.Timothy Wilson Jr., a 32-year-old Vista detention center deputy, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of felony lewd act on a child for the March 21 incident. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City. WASHINGTON (AP) — For the first time in Marine Corps history, women are attending a previously male-only combat training course in California.Marine Capt. Joshua Pena said 40 female Marine students checked-in Tuesday to the Marine Combat Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton.The move comes at least seven months after senior Marine leaders said they were considering the change, amid criticism that much of the early training excludes women.The entry-level course is for Marines who've finished boot camp and aren't assigned to infantry jobs. It lasts about a month and involves basic combat training, including patrol and convoy operations, marksmanship and the use of grenade launchers and machine guns.Pena said the female Marines will be fully integrated with the men, and that their inclusion triggered no changes to the course instruction. He said that eventually as many as 1,700 women would go through the combat training there each year.Currently Marine boot camp on the West Coast is only for male recruits. Women attend boot camp at Parris Island in South Carolina, where they are separated from the men for portions of the training. Congress members have been critical of that policy, and the Corps has been reviewing it.Until now, half of the Marine Corps' male recruits would go through their initial training on the West Coast where they had no female colleagues. A key reason for the limits is the shortage of female recruits. Women make up just 8.7 percent of the Corps.But Marine leaders have been eyeing changes with the belief that giving the men greater exposure to women recruits during training could foster better relations and greater respect over time. 1686

(KGTV) -- A man who detained two juveniles before taking their skateboards while posing as a sheriff’s deputy was sentenced Monday.  Abraham Joseph Nava, 24, was sentenced to three years of formal probation after pleading guilty in July to felony false imprisonment.In a separate case, Nava also admitted to calling in a false report of a bomb threat. Nava was given credit for 149 days in custody.RELATED: Guilty plea from man who posed as deputy, detained juveniles  He will have to comply with counseling conditions as required by the probation department, including a forensic examination to help determine what course of treatment to take, said Deputy District Attorney Peter Estes.Nava was arrested on June 14, several days after the sheriff’s department was contacted about a suspect claiming to be an undercover deputy.During interviews with several employees in the Main Street area of Vista, investigators learned that the suspect passed out fake business cards and was interacting with juveniles.Investigators also learned that the two juveniles were detained and had their skateboards taken. After identifying Nava as the suspect, investigators obtained a warrant to search his home where they discovered several pieces of San Diego County Sheriff’s Department uniform items, including badges.A box of fraudulent business cards was also found.
