President Donald Trump lavished praise on China for the very trade practices he once lambasted as unfair during a remarkable morning session in Beijing.Emerging after two hours of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said he doesn't fault China for taking advantage of differences between the way the two countries do business."I don't blame China," Trump said during remarks to business leaders inside the Great Hall of the People. "After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for benefit of their citizens? I give China great credit." 597

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — Poway officials unanimously approved the use of outdoor space for fitness classes and religious services, after the state banned indoor activities at gyms and placed of worship this week.Wednesday, Poway City Council leaders voted to allow Poway park space to be reserved for fitness- or religious-related activities as part of the city's Sharing Outdoor Spaces, or "SOS," initiative. Reserving spaces will not come at a cost, according to Poway Mayor Steve Vaus.RELATED: Newsom shuts down indoor activities across CaliforniaEffective Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered all indoor activities to close at fitness centers, worship services, offices for non-critical sections, personal care services, hair salons and barber shops, and malls across the state amid rising coronavirus cases."In Poway we often think outside the box, this time we’re thinking outside the walls," said Mayor Vaus. "Last week we offered restaurants a lifeline through the simple act of loaning picnic tables and the outpouring of support in Poway was overwhelming. Given the current mandates, we need to look for creative and safe ways to help keep more ‘doors’ open in Poway. We’ve got the space at our parks to offer this, at no cost, with minimal impact on other park users."RELATED: Vista businesses allowed to take services outdoorsThe reservation of park space would be limited to Poway-based houses of worship, and fitness organizations with a current Poway business certificate and commercial insurance, the city says. The county's COVID-19 guidelines must also be adhered to, including mandates on face coverings and physical distancing.Councilman Barry Leonard said the initiative is "a common-sense approach" in response to the rollback of openings for these businesses."This is beneficial to our community," Leonard added. "We're not forcing people to do anything. We're not telling people they have to come out and be uncomfortable."Poway's decision comes the same day as a similar move by the City of Vista to allow similar businesses "to temporarily relocate their existing business operations to an adjacent outdoor area during the COVID-19 pandemic."City News Service contributed to this report. 2219

Prepare to question your career choices.A 9-year-old boy who reviews new toys online has been named the highest-paid YouTube star of 2020 by Forbes. The media company says the boy, Ryan Kaji, raked in .5 million over the course of a year, from June 2019 to June 2020.According to Forbes, Kaji has amassed about 41.7 million subscribers on his YouTube channels, including more than 27.7 subscribers on his main channel Ryan’s World. The young entrepreneur draws kids from around the world to his videos. Along with reviewing toys, he records DIY science experiments and shares stories with his family. Not all of Kaji’s money comes from YouTube though. Forbes says a bulk of the boy’s business comes from licensing deals for thousands of Ryan’s World products, which range from bedroom décor to toys.Behind Kaji in the list of top YouTube earners were Mr. Beast (Jimmy Donaldson) at million, Dude Perfect at million, Rhett and Link at million, and Markiplier (Mark Fischbach) at .5 million.Forbes says it estimated the earning of the YouTubers based on data from Captiv8, SocialBlade and Pollstar, as well as interviews with industry insiders. The amounts are pretax and don’t include deductions for agents, managers, lawyers, etc. 1253

President Donald Trump indicated this weekend to associates he is preparing to oust Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, a source familiar with the conversations confirmed to CNN.CNN's Jeff Zeleny has reported two officials said Shulkin remains the most vulnerable cabinet member. The announcement could happen as early as this week, the source said. However, until an announcement is made, no decision in the Trump White House is considered final.White House officials did not have any comment.Chris Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax Media and a friend of Trump's, told ABC's "This Week" today that he talked with Trump this weekend and "he did say that he's expecting to make one or two major changes to his government very soon."Shulkin won unanimous confirmation by the Senate last year and had enjoyed bipartisan support and the backing of the President, who touted his legislative victories at VA. But the situation grew more tenuous in recent months with Shulkin telling reporters that Trump administration political appointees have been working to oust him over policy differences. The rift between Shulkin and those within the agency and at the White House became public in February after Shulkin was the subject of a damning inspector general report related to a trip that he took to Europe last summer. While his standing at the White House has diminished, he retains the support of key members of Congress and the nation's veterans service organizations. The Washington Post first reported about Trump telling associates he was planning on ousting Shulkin. When asked last week about Shulkin's status, a VA spokesperson said, "There are no personnel changes to announce at the Department of Veterans Affairs. President Trump has made clear that he expects the Department's sole focus to be on providing quality care to America's veterans who have sacrificed to keep this country free and safe."The spokesperson added, "President Trump tasked Secretary Shulkin with reforming the VA so it could better serve the men and women who sacrificed to protect our country. Many reforms have already been enacted, many more are still needed, but nothing will distract the President, the Secretary and the Department from finding the best ways to provide care and benefits to our country's heroes." 2299

President Donald Trump railed against "globalists" and declared himself "a nationalist" during his rally Monday night in Houston -- prompting "USA" chants."A globalist is a person that wants the globe to do well, frankly not caring about the country so much," Trump said, prompting boos from the crowd. "You know, we can't have that.""You know they have a word, it sort of became old-fashioned, it's called a nationalist," Trump continued. "And I say really, we're not supposed to use that word.""You know what I am, I'm a nationalist," Trump said, as the crowd erupted in "USA! USA!" chants. "Use that word."Trump then touted the fact that his unfavorable ratings in other countries are sky high."Of course I'm unpopular with foreign nations, because we're not letting them rip us off anymore," he said.Earlier, Trump addressed the elephant in the room as he took the rally stage in Houston following an introduction from Sen. Ted Cruz."You know, we had our little difficulties," Trump said to laughter from the crowd packed into Houston's Toyota Center. The President then recounted how he and Cruz had begun the 2016 presidential campaign as allies, referencing a rally they held together in Washington. But eventually, he said the two men decided it was "time" to begin hitting each other."And it got nasty," Trump said. But since he was elected, Trump said, Cruz has been one of his top allies in Congress."And then it ended and I'll tell you what, nobody has helped me more with your tax cuts, with your regulation, with all of the things ... including military and our vets, than Sen. Ted Cruz," Trump said.Trump predicted that "in just 15 days the people of Texas are going to re-elect a man who has become a really good friend of mine."It was a stark change from the spring of 2016, when he was whipping that same base of support into a frenzy against "Lyin' Ted."And he's now given the senator from Texas a pair of much kinder monikers."To me, he's not Lyin' Ted anymore. He's Beautiful Ted. He's Texas -- I call him Texas Ted," Trump said as he left the White House en route to Houston earlier Monday."No, Ted Cruz and I had a very, very nasty and tough campaign. It was a very competitive -- it was a very tough campaign. Once it ended and we got together -- and, by the way, very late into the campaign we lasted. People were shocked. I said, 'Don't worry, it's only a question of time,' " Trump said.Just 15 days before the midterm elections -- to the dismay of some Republicans in tighter races -- Trump is stumping in this solidly red state to help ensure Cruz fends off a challenge from Democratic Rep. Beto O'Rourke, whose energized campaign has unnerved some Republicans.Trump's Texas rally is just the latest stop in the President's blitz of campaign appearances leading up to the midterm elections November 6, coming on the heels of a swing through Western states late last week. After Texas, Trump will rally supporters in Wisconsin and North Carolina and then round out the week in Illinois. The rally comes as Trump continues to grapple with one of the most consequential diplomatic crises of his presidency, the fallout from the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed by Saudi agents in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul earlier this month.Saudi Arabia admitted for the first time on Friday that Saudi officials had killed Khashoggi, but claimed it was an accidental death resulting from a fistfight -- an explanation at odds with the Turkish government's account and other key facts.Trump has turned away from that issue during rallies, instead focusing on his accomplishments as President and warning his supporters that Democratic gains in Congress would spell disaster for the country.Trump has also talked about illegal immigration at recent rallies, seizing on a caravan of several thousand migrants working its way from Central America toward the US border. 3910
