(WXYZ) — Nearly 100,000 children tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks of July, according to a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association.According to the report, 97,078 kids tested positive for coronavirus between July 16 and July 30, which is nearly 1/3 of the total confirmed cases of children in the U.S. since the beginning of the pandemic.The report found that around 338,000 children tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began. Over the last two weeks of July, the number of positive tests increased 40%.According to the report, the academy looked at state numbers that were considered children. The age ranges vary by state, and in Michigan, it includes anyone 19 and younger, but the state recently started reporting age groups 0-9 and 10-19. A 41-year-old Sheboygan, Wisconsin mom faces multiple charges after she had her 12-year-old daughter driver her car after she was drinking.According to the criminal complaint, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was called to I-43 at County Road V on Sunday, March 18 around 5:30 p.m. local time — after a 911 caller reported a child driving a Chevy Equinox SUV on the freeway while sitting on her mother’s lap.The deputy caught up to the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he noted a strong smell of intoxicants coming from inside. He also saw the 12-year-old girl was in the back seat and the mother, Amanda Hauke, was behind the wheel.The mother initially denied that the girl was driving the car in her lap – but later admitted that it was true. The 12-year-old girl also told the deputy that she did this.During a field sobriety test, the mother admitted to drinking roughly four hours before she was pulled over. A preliminary breath test was performed and showed Hauke’s blood alcohol level was .126. She was then arrested. After she was arrested, Hauke then admitted to authorities she had consumed “a couple glasses of wine with a co-worker at a bar between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. that afternoon.”Hauke is charged with: 1306

(KGTV) — Recent wildfires that have been fueled by extreme weather conditions across California are already among the state's largest wildfires, burning a combined more than half a million acres.According to CalFire, the LNU Lightning Complex and SCU Lightning Complex fires are already the second- and seventh-largest wildfires in California history, respectively. Both fires are believed to have been caused by lightning strikes.The fires are two of more than 500 burning across the state as of Friday. Many of those fires were sparked by lightning strikes earlier this week.The LNU Lightning Complex sparked Monday just north of Napa and has burned 302,388 acres. That blaze was 15% contained Friday. The SCU Lightning Complex fire started Tuesday east of San Francisco and has burned 229,968 acres. As of Friday, it was 10% contained.Gov. Gavin Newsom says the blazes across the state are taxing California's firefighting capacity, but that assistance from 10 states is starting to arrive. CalFire Chief Mark Brunton pleaded with residents to leave their homes and not to battle the fires themselves, saying that could put more lives at risk.According to the Associated Press, more than 12,000 firefighters, helicopters, and air tankers were deployed Friday to battle wildfires throughout the state. 1311
