SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police were involved in a chase that led to a standoff in Valencia Park Wednesday night.Video from Sky10 showed police chasing the suspect through residential streets. The chase began after police spotted the woman, who is wanted for burglaries and identity thefts throughout San Diego County, driving on the 805.The woman refused to stop and led both Harbor Police and San Diego Police on a slow-speed chase. Police then used spike strips that appeared to flatten one of the vehicle’s tires.The driver stopped a short distance after the spikes were used. Police could then be seen taking a police K9 out of one of the vehicles.The woman refused to get out of her car after police threatened to send in the K9 unit. The suspect sat in her car until officers approached the vehicle, broke the drivers side window, and pulled her out of the car.In video captured from the scene, the woman could then be seen being taken into custody.Live video captured by Sky10 shows the whole incident. Watch the video in the player below:  1066

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was shot Sunday outside of a College Area smoke shop, according to police.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but San Diego Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been shot just before 5:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of El Cajon Blvd., outside of Aztec Smoke & Vape Shop.The victim was hit in the leg and chest and taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition was not clear.The area was closed by police for the investigation.10News is monitoring this breaking news. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 20 people were arrested in San Diego as part of a statewide sanctuary enforcement operation carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.ICE officials said the arrests were made between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, with the focus on “criminal aliens and individuals who have violated U.S. immigration laws.”According to officials, arrests were made in San Diego, Encinitas, Vista, Lakeside, National City, Poway, Fallbrook, Spring Valley, Escondido, Oceanside, and San Marcos.In a news release, ICE officials said:“Of those arrested, 10 were the direct result of sanctuary state laws that force local law enforcement not to honored a lawfully issued immigration detainer. Two arrests were the direct result of the law enforcement agency releasing the individuals prior to ICE being able to place an immigration detainer on their case.Of those arrested, over 80 percent had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges. Of those, the criminal offenses included Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a minor under 14 with Force, Domestic Violence, Assault, Possession of Control Substance for Sale, Possession of Control Substance, Vehicle Theft, Burglary, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.One individual who was arrested during the operation will face federal criminal prosecution for having illegally re-entered the U.S. after their removal. Those who were primary targets of this operation have final orders of removal issued by a federal immigration judge. Their due process was completed, and they will be removed from the United States. The individuals who were arrested and require adjudication from an immigration judge will be placed in detention pending the outcome of their removal proceedings.”Gregory Archambeault, Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Diego, said, “The State of California has chosen to prohibit local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE to protect public safety. These local agencies are forced to release criminal aliens to the street, abandoning the victims of crimes and the innocent members of their communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials say more than 80 people are currently being monitored for coronavirus symptoms in San Diego County, as the first flight of quarantine passengers from a cruise ship arrived at MCAS Miramar Tuesday. A group consisting of between 50-60 people arrived at MCAS Miramar just before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a 14-day quarantine. The passengers had been aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was brought to Oakland.All passengers have been screened and showed no symptoms, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, adding that about 400 more passengers were expected to arrive at Miramar on Wednesday.The cruise ship reported at least 20 people infected with coronavirus aboard the ship, before it was directed to dock in Oakland after spending about a week awaiting orders off California's coast.RELATED: San Diego County woman tests positive for coronavirus following overseas travelAbout 900 California residents who were aboard the ship will be repatriated through MCAS Miramar and Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, according to Wooten. MCAS Miramar confirmed the arrival late Tuesday and larger group expected Wednesday.In a statement, MCAS Miramar Commanding Officer Col. Charles Dockery said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is leading the local quarantine effort on the base."As with the previous mission, all passengers entering quarantine will have been deemed asymptomatic by health care professionals. Passengers will remain quarantined throughout the 14-day period and there will be no contact with DOD personnel. Finally, any person that tests positive for COVID-19 will be transferred off-station," Col. Dockery's statement read.San Diego is currently monitoring 73 travelers from China and Iran for coronavirus symptoms, according to the county. Since Feb. 6, 448 travelers have been monitored, with 375 travelers clearing their quarantine period.Currently, 11 non-travel related individuals in San Diego County are being monitored: Nine who had contact with an Orange County patient who works in Chula Vista and two people who had contact with a travel-related coronavirus patient who lives in San Diego County. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Native American artists are finding new audiences and venues to display their craft as American Indian stories enter pop culture."Some of us refer to it as 'Native Sovereignty,' being in charge of your own narrative," says Joely Proudfit, the California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center Director. "Who better to tell our story than us?"Proudfit says the change is welcome after decades of Native Americans being depicted poorly in pop culture, mainly because non-native people have told the stories.Thanks to new ways of telling stories, like streaming services, social media, and more access to film festivals and book publishing, that's changing.There's also a greater demand for stories by Native American voices."I think audiences are hungry for not diversity for diversity's sake. They're just interested in other communities, other worlds, engagement, and really authenticity," says Proudfit.The California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center and Cal State San Marcos sponsor the California American Indian & Indigenous Film Festival. Since starting in 2013, it has grown from small groups in a classroom to taking over the Pechanga Resort and Casino.It's now the largest Native American Film Festival on tribal land in the country.The festival's growth parallels the rise of other Native American voices in different mediums."The biggest change is the increased number of native voices and the medium in which native folks have been able to express their creativity," says Dr. David Kamper, the Chair of American Indian Studies at San Diego State University.Kamper says he sees more American Indian voices in books, online, and in fashion. He says that representation, whether it's Nike's N7 line of shoes and clothes or best-sellers like "The Only Good Indians" or "The Beadworkers," is essential to helping Native Americans define their culture in modern-day America."Seeing native films, seeing native art, seeing native clothing, fashion, that is done in a contemporary way, is a very loud statement against a settler-colonial narrative that native people aren't here anymore," Kamper says.He also points to online messaging like the hashtag #OnNativeLand as one way the next generation is reclaiming their identity.Proudfit says she's excited for what the future holds for Native American representation in Pop Culture."I think it's just a really exciting time for indigenous cinema, indigenous arts, and native storytelling.
