Duncan Hunter criticized Navy officials Monday for their plans to possibly remove a Navy SEAL acquitted of murder charges from the service against the wishes of President Donald Trump. Hunter commented Monday outside San Diego federal court regarding the Navy's handling of the war crimes case of Navy SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher, who was acquitted by a military jury this summer of stabbing a wounded teenage ISIS fighter to death in Mosul, Iraq, as well as other charges of attempting to kill unarmed Iraqi civilians. Hunter discussed the Gallagher case for about five minutes with reporters, but did not comment regarding his ongoing campaign fraud case, in which he's accused of misusing 0,000 in campaign funds for personal use. Hunter was indicted along with his wife on five dozen criminal counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy, and falsification of records. Margaret Hunter, 44, has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge and awaits sentencing. Monday's hearing was postponed, but Hunter will return to court Dec. 3. DOD spokesman Jonathan Hoffman wrote that Secretary of Defense Mark Esper asked for Spencer's resignation after Spencer privately proposed to the White House to restore Gallagher's rank, despite his opposing public stance on the issue. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was seriously injured when she crossed into the path of an oncoming car in Linda Vista, police said Saturday.A 72-year-old woman had just gotten off a bus at a stop on Linda Vista Road near Tait Street around 5:20 p.m., according to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims. She walked to a marked crosswalk and began to walk across the street against the signal, Heims said.At the same time, the driver of an approaching Toyota did not stop for the pedestrian and hit her, Heims said.Paramedics were dispatched and the pedestrian was taken to a hospital. She suffered extensive head injuries, Heims said.Police don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. 700

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man was slashed in the face with a knife by a family member during a fight at Ski Beach Sunday, police said.The family was gathered at the beach when an uninvited family member showed up about 2:35 p.m. Sunday, according to Officer S. Foster of the San Diego Police Department.A 31-year-old man got into a fight with another family member, who pulled a knife and slashed him below his right eye, Foster said.The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the officer said. Gavin Newsom announced Monday the state will send .7 million to support San Diego's proposed purchase of two hotels to provide more than 330 rental housing units for San Diegans experiencing homelessness.The funds -- part of the state's Project Homekey -- will go toward the purchase of the Residence Inn Hotel Circle and Residence Inn Kearny Mesa, to be considered by the San Diego City Council in October.The purchase of the two properties would create 332 permanent supportive housing units, with 72 of the units having two bedrooms, enough to provide housing for more than 400 individuals. According to a city statement, the units were determined to require minimal work before people could move in. The Hotel Circle property was built in 2003, while the Kearny Mesa property was built in 1990 and underwent a renovation in 2013."San Diego has proven we can put state dollars to action on programs and services that reduce homelessness," said Mayor Kevin Faulconer.
