A 3-year-old suffered second-degree burns after falling into a small thermal feature at Yellowstone National Park.The National Park Service (NPS) says the child took off running from a trail before slipping and falling into the feature Friday morning. It happened near the Midway Geyser Basin.The child, who suffered burns to the lower body and back, was airlifted to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.According to NPS, the ground in hydrothermal areas, like at Yellowstone, is fragile and thin. Just below the surface is scalding water.Visitors to Yellowstone are asked to always remain on boardwalks and trails. They’re also encouraged to exercise extreme caution around thermal features.This certainly isn’t the first time someone has been injured in a thermal area like this. This past May, NPS says another visitor, who illegally entered the park, fell into thermal feature at Old Faithful while taking photos.Similar instances have been reported in previous years as well. (KGTV) - The state Supreme Court started hearing oral arguments Tuesday in San Francisco over San Diego’s pension changes that were approved by voters six years ago.More than 65 percent of San Diegans voted for Proposition B, the "Citizens Pension Reform Initiative" which switched most new city workers to a 401(k) plan instead of a guaranteed pension.Ever since then the measure has been challenged by labor unions. The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) has been trying to overturn the pension cutbacks in court and now it’s in front of the state Supreme Court.The court will review the Fourth District Court of Appeal’s 2017 ruling on the issue.The focus then was on whether former San Diego city leaders illegally put Prop B on the ballot because they did not meet and confer with the labor union first. The appellate court ruled in favor of the city then.Now, political analyst John Dadian says if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the labor union, the city could be upside-down millions of dollars, directly impacting taxpayers.“Taxpayers should be very scared,” said Dadian.  “They could have to go back and retroactively give the original pension benefits to the new 3,000 employees and that would be horrendous.”Dadian says there is still hope for the city if the court rules in favor of the union.“If it rules against the city they have several options, they could craft a new one (prop) to go back on the ballot and it could possibly go to federal court,” said Dadian.After Tuesday’s hearing, the court has 90 days to make a ruling. 1575

(KGTV) -- Tuesday, SpaceX launchged several satellites into orbit that will replace a satellite network and monitor climate change. The Iridium-6/GRACE-FO satellites were launched just before 1 p.m. from Vandenberg Air Force Base. For this particular mission, SpaceX launched five Iridium NEXT satellites as part of the company's campaign to replace the world's largest commercial satellite network. A total of eight Iridium NEXT launches are planned with the company that will send into orbit 75 new satellites. Also on board the Falcon 9 rocket will be satellites that will monitor the movement of earth's mass for NASA and the German Research Centre for Geosciences.Watch the launch in the player below:  775

(KGTV) SAN DIEGO - A local Vietnam veteran was recently honored decades after his service.  The ceremony was a bittersweet one. Retired Navy Captain, John Cammall, is in hospice care. His son, David, said he will likely never leave his home. "He's been a great father," David said as tears fell and he shifted in his chair at the foot of his dad's bed. "It's hard to see him this way."Hospice care cannot give you a fairytale ending but Elizabeth Hospice and some Camp Pendleton Marines did brighten one vet's morning. You can learn more about the program here. 589
